Reconnect during wedding planning

Wedding planning can be intense and often requires dedication and
many hours of work. Coordinating a wedding often requires that couples
make many different decisions and spend a considerable amount of time
in the wedding-planning trenches.
Couples expend so much energy planning their weddings that it can
be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture namely the relationship that
is the basis for the marriage in the first place. But as easy as it can be to
get lost in wedding planning, couples can use this time together to connect on a deeper level and learn to work cooperatively.
Divide and conquer. Separate wedding planning duties so that both
of you feel you are contributing equally and no one person gets overly
stressed out. Stress can lead to short tempers and arguments.
Establish a mutual budget. Even the healthiest couple argues over
finances from time to time, but budgetary debates should not set a negative tone for wedding planning. Couples should discuss their potential
budget before they even begin to plan their weddings, and both partners
should do their best to compromise while also understanding where the
other person is coming from.
Schedule time for fun. Do not let wedding planning be all-consuming. Schedule days that allow you to enjoy yourselves together without
having to think about or discuss your pending nuptials. This may include
date nights that may have fallen by the wayside since getting engaged or
periodic day trips to get away from it all. Explore your mutual hobbies
or try something new.
Learn to laugh at the little things. Not every detail will go off without a hitch. How you react as a couple may influence how much you
enjoy your wedding. Recognize that certain things will not go your way,
but that unforeseen circumstances will not ruin your wedding day, no
matter how unpleasant they may seem. Laugh at what cannot be changed
and recognize that, in the long run, the details you think are major today
may actually prove trivial when you look back on your wedding day
in the years to come.

Should Couples
Include Children
In Wedding Party?

!
"

Engaged couples often ask

their closest friends and family
members to be part of their
wedding ceremonies. Children
often participate in weddings
and can add joviality to this
special occasion. However, its
important to consider a childs
age and maturity before having him or her be part of the
wedding. Some houses of
worship restrict child participation to kids of a certain age, so
its best to check with clergy
regarding their rules before
including kids in the wedding
party. If children need to be
coaxed down the aisle or are
prone to disruptive behavior, it
may be best to give them
another role, such as handing
out bubbles or birdseed after
the wedding.

Golf Outing A Big Success!

It was a peaceful summer evening and Ginger and I were taking in the beautiful flights of our daily
humming bird rituals. And then it happened. I received the call.
Hi JR, whats up? I answered.
Would you like to play in a golf scramble with
me tomorrow morning? he asked.
Sure. How many guys do you have? I replied.
Just you and me so far, he confided. Can you
get two more players?
Yeah, I think I can do that, I related.
What about Austin? he reminded.
Thats a good idea, I replied. Ill let you know what I come up with.
Ginger then dialed Austin (grandson number four) and asked if he would like to play in the scramble.
Heck yeah, he announced, loud enough for me to hear too.
I then dialed friend Jerry Bazill. But there was no answer. I left an emergency message to call me back
as soon as he received the message.
A few minutes later, Jerry called and I informed him of the team I was getting together for a scramble
at 10 a.m. in the morning. Of course, he replied Yes!
The tournament was a fundraiser for the Mississinawa Junior High Cheerleaders. They were raising
money for their new uniforms. My son JR lives in Union City, Ohio, and his kids attend school there.
This was a first time event, so I knew there wouldnt be many teams playing.
When we arrived at the Union City Country Club, it looked as though we were the first to arrive, but
once we got inside, there were locals signing up, purchasing raffle tickets, mulligans, and enjoying their
favorite beverages.

The club Pro gave everyone instructions and asked if anyone had any questions. I nudged JR and asked
if they were going to use Senior Tees.
The Pro quickly replied, Yes, if youre 65 or older, you can use the yellow tees. Jerry and I both
smiled at each other.
I played the best golf of the season. Hit the driver as well as I could. Putted liked Jordan Spieth. And
watched my teammates stare in awe.
We shot a 57, and won the first ever MV Cheerleaders Golf Scramble.
During the closing ceremony we were awarded $160 for first place. I looked at JR and asked if he
thought it was OK to donate the money back to the cheerleaders. Everyone agreed, and the girls were
elated.
