The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also known as the Midsummer Classic
is played on the second or third Tuesday in July. The first All-Star game took place
in 1933 as part of the Worlds Fair at Comiskey Park in Chicago. The game was so
successful that the game was made an annual one. The All-Star game is a contest
between players from the American League and the National League and the game is
played at a different venue each year. The city of San Diego hosted the All-Star game
in 1978 and 1992, though this is the first time the game has been played at Petco
Park. Since 2003, the result of the game has determined which leagues champion
has home-field advantage in the World Series. The managers of the teams in the
previous World Series are the managers for the All-Star Game. The fans have selected
the starting position players since 1970, while managers and players currently select
pitchers and reserves. The All-Star game has been played 86 times with the National
League leading the series 43-41, with the addition of 2 ties.

Objectives:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original, new logo
and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four
quality images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and
text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers,
and subheaders. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Process:
I started by going into InDesign, creating two pages, and putting a line at the
middle of the page so I would know where to put my content. Then I designed
my layout. I put images in and filled text boxes with filler text. After I created
the design I wrote the body copy. Then I put the text into the document. I also
created by San Diego Tourism Co. logo in Illustrator and placed it on the back
page. I used photo shop to create the cutout image of the baseball bats. On the
front page, I created a black rectangle box and decreased the opacity so that the
title is easily visible. I really enjoyed this project!

Process:
I created a web page using text wrangler. I imported a premade CSS document
into the HTML document. Then I made changes to both documents to create
the page I wanted. I used CSS to create the diagonal blue and gray lines in the
background. I also aligned my text. I changed the colors of both my header
1 and header 2 and put them into italics. I created an unordered list and put
breaks in where I wanted the text to move to the next line. I also created a
hyperlink so that people can easily go to my blog.

Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing
logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and
letterhead. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only
.125. Apply typography rules, keeping small copy. Keep designs simple with
light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space. Include contact
information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each piece.
Process:
I started by creating a logo using Adobe Illustrator. I used the pen tool to create
one end of the arrow and then used reflect to create the other one. The logo is
intended to be transferrable to a flag. I made the name of the person bigger on
the letterhead to make it the focal point. I also put the phone number and email
address first. I aligned the words and designs I used. I also used repetition with
my colors and the yellow slash marks.

Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match
those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout. Use a digital camera
to take a quality image, then download it. Adjust image levels, saturation, color
balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout. Use layers to
design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Process:
I used photoshop to create this project. I made the text clear and contrasted
it with the background. I added a lot of vibrance to the picture, and made
the blue a little bit darker. I aligned the words toward the bottom of the page
with the word analogous. I aligned the word analogous with the left edge of
the text above. I used colored rectangles to repeat the colors in the picture. I
emphasized the word outside by making it bigger than the other words and by
making it bold.

Process:
I started out by creating three different drafts for this company I made up.
Then, I gathered input and feedback to figure out which one people liked the
best. I took the one people liked best, and changed it a little bit to produce
my final product. I created this logo in Adobe Illustrator. I varied my font size
so that the words liberty and rising stand out. I created stars and put them
over the dot of the letter I. I created a shape below the words that is sleek and
changes direction so that it goes underneath the letter g. I also aligned my text
on the left.

Memorial Day
Softball Game
Cubs legend Ron Santo died in 2010 after a long battle
with diabetes. In honor of Rons life and his efforts to
find a cure for diabetes, former Cubs players will play
in this charity softball game hosted by the
Tennessee Smokies.
Players include:
Greg Maddux
Fergie Jenkins
Billy Williams
Ryne Sandberg
Process:
I used the publishing layout to create a word document that advertises a charity
softball event. I made the font of the words softball game bigger to emphasize
that part of the title. I aligned the green rectangle with the title above, the
text below, and with the slightly transparent boxes in the image. I used the
analogous color scheme, using light blue, dark blue, and some teal. I made the
date, time, and place of the event clear. I also focused on some of the former
players that will be playing in the event.

to keep links in InDesign intact.
Process:
I created sketches of my layout and used one of them as a guide for my project.
I created this project in Adobe InDesign. I aligned the title with the black boxes
and the logo. I also aligned the end of the words graduate and conference with
the edge of the black boxes. I aligned the top of the picture with the black boxes
and the bottom of the picture with the bottom of the logo. I emphasized the
word leadership by making it bolder and bigger to make it the clear focal point.
I made sure the person in the photo was looking toward the center to create a
good flow. I was given the information, photo, and logo.
