Our Challenges
Higher educational institutions, even industry
and government, have to reinvent themselves
to deal with the challenges in the knowledge
economy
New policy and regulatory measures have to
be adopted
We have to contend with rising unemployment
and underemployment

Presidential Task Force on Education
(PTFE) to assess, plan, and monitor the
entire education system

knowledge-based society, we are
currently pursuing the following
initiatives

basic
education
level

implementation of the World Bank


assisted Basic Education Sector Reform
Agenda (BESRA)
In technical vocational education and
training implementation of the Second
Cycle of the National Technical Education
and Skills Development Plan

Current Initiatives
At the higher education level, we are reengineering our academic curricula to
make these IT-enabled, market responsive
and globally competitive.
Industry champions in the following
sectors Business Process Outsourcing,
Tourism
and
Hospitality
Services,
Electronics, Engineering, Construction,
Maritime, Ship Building, Health Care,
Wholesale and Retail have made it
possible to establish industry-academe
working linkages.

Current Initiatives
The Department of Educations inroads to
ICT-based education in partnership with
Microsoft,
Intel,
other
government
agencies, the Knowledge Channel and a
private foundation.
A total of 4,712 or 66% of all high schools
have access to computer services; 1,149
have Internet connectivity

Current Initiatives
We have recently established the National
Science Complex and Technology Incubation
Park, with support from government and
private sectors
The Accelerated Human Resource
Development Program and the Engineering
Research and Development for Technology
program have been launched to provide for
more MS and PhD scholarships
A National Innovation Strategy called
Filipinnovation has been launched
Enhancing the lead role of the Commission on
Information and Communications Technology

The vision for a knowledge-based Philippines
sees education as the overarching theme of this
roadmap - the moving force towards its
realization
As the country positions itself towards
becoming a full-fledged knowledge-based
society and capable of achieving peace,
social well-being and becoming globally
competitive in the next decades, the
