Brochure
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
July 9, 2016
PROGRAM(S):
Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:
A two sided trifold brochure to inform the general public about nutrition including
some basic things they may have not thought about around this subject.
OBJECTIVES: To utilize skills learned within Adobe programs through the creation
of a self-designed brochure created for an audience of individuals seeking general
information in regards to nutrition.
PROCESS:
I started this design through sketching many different ideas. When I transferred
my designs onto the computer I found myself using many ruler guides to insure
proper allignment. chose to use vibrant images of food to tie the design elements
into the message. For the image of the blueberries I used the quick selection tool
in Adobe Photoshop to remove the background of the image. I then used the refine
mask dialogue box to smooth, feather, shift edge and apply contrast to the outline
of the berries. The changes I made in the refine mask dialogue box made a softer
image that didnt look so sharp and cutout against the brochures background.
I then placed the blueberries image into InDesign where I used the text wrap
option to wrap my text around the alpha channel of the image. I created the logo
in Illustrator using the pen tool and then I placed it into InDesign. The company
name is actually french and means: Food for Reflection or in other words Food for
Thought.

Photodesign
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
May 22, 2016
PROGRAM:
Adobe Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:
A full bleed poster featuring an original photograph, a quotation and an appealing
color scheme.
OBJECTIVES: Compile an original photograph into a full bleed poster layout
therefore demonstrating strong photography and image editing skills and to create a
poster encouraging individuals to look at life in a deeper way.
PROCESS:
I actually took this photograph one day while I was running down a sidewalk and the
word LOOK really stood out to me. The original picture did not have much color
variation going so my shoes gave me the idea for this color scheme. I took this image
on my 5X Wide (Schneider-Kreuznach) 28mm Kodak camera.
I brought my image into Photoshop and was able to lighten the levels, sharpness,
saturation, and color balance. I designed an 8.511 layout with my photo, repeating
design elements and text included. I used the eye dropper tool to make sure that my
image was just right. I had help from individuals and Photoshop tutorials to learn
basic elements of Adobe Photoshop such as image editing, typography, organizing
layers into folders and designing shapes.

Logos
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
June 4, 2016
PROGRAM:
Adobe Illustrator
DESCRIPTION:
I created these logos for Cherry Hill which is an upbeat family friendly water park
for families and individuals who enjoy splashing around in the summer sun or
lounging in a lazy river specifically on yellow inner-tubes with red handles. I stacked
yellow inner tubes such as these almost everyday in the summers of my high school
years.
OBJECTIVES:
Logo Design creation for a company of my choice.
PROCESS:
It was a neat experience to create Logos of my own in Adobe Illustrator. After trying
several drafts and ideas, I asked many individuals for a vote of which design was
the best. I chose the design that was liked best by the majority which was also my
favorite, yet there were things I still needed to adapt and change. I worked with
font variations to help people to know that Cherry Hill was the company name,
yet also was a water park. I refined the typography and font choices, played with
color schemes which fit the actual company and which were fun and exciting. This
process took many drafts but turned out pleasurable in the end.

Webpage
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
June 26, 2016
PROGRAM:
Text Wrangler, Adobe Illustrator, the inspect element of CSS on the Firefox browser,
Adobe Photoshop for hex codes
DESCRIPTION:
A web page designed to showcase a logo that I personally created.
OBJECTIVES:
Edit HTML and CSS elements to learn the behind the scenes components of web
page designing.
PROCESS:
I created this web page using only TextWrangler along with the inspect element of
CSS on the Firefox browser. I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I
attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors from my
logo as the colors for my web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and
using the eyedropper tool. I also changed my fonts to Raleway Medium and Roboto
Slab. I declared some backup fonts just in case the viewers browser didnt have
these fonts. I also used padding around the logo and text so that they would not be
too close to the edge of the web page. The hardest part of this project for me was
understanding the new terminology and mark-up language of HTML and CSS.

Event Ad
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
May 14, 2016
PROGRAM(S)/TOOLS:
Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner, PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter).
DESCRIPTION:
A full-bleed color event ad for promoting a fundraiser using a scanner and Microsoft
Word only.
OBJECTIVES:
Create an event ad promoting a fundraiser for individuals in Guatemala in hopes of
capturing their attention so they may have the desire to participate.
PROCESS:
I found an image from Central America taken by Barbara Arroyo, I thought it fit well
for this event and used Word to expand its proportion. I used teal colored boxes
along and colored stripes to add interaction and contrast. The stripes were also a
way that I was able to include repetition. I chose a font for my title that does not
have serifs to give it a modern feeling. Something that surprised me were the design
features of Microsoft Word, there were many features that I did not know about
which were awesome to learn about and utilize.

Business Card
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
June 11, 2016
PROGRAM(S)/TOOLS:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
DESCRIPTION:
A personally designed full color business card.
OBJECTIVES:
Design a business card for a fashion company using Adobe Illustrator. The company
Simple Design is an up and coming fashion design company owned by my friend
Leo Geng, who wanted to emphasize the message of simpleness in their logo.
PROCESS:
I decided to design some business cards first and really saw the value of the circle
just as Leo had requested. With my designing I made sure to size the box correctly
(3.5 inches for width x 2 inches for height). I focused on looking at corners and really
focused on making this design look as professional as possible. I made sure this
project had a consistent flow and feel in its look.

Stationery
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
June 11, 2016
PROGRAM(S)/TOOLS:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
DESCRIPTION:
A personally designed full color letterhead stationery.
OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of letterhead is for official communications of a company. This
stationery was designed with the title of the company, Simple Design, in mind and
was created in hopes of connecting the companies title into its design in an elegant
and professional way.
PROCESS:
To commence this project I sketched out many different logo options for the Fashion
company Simple Design. I researched many fonts from free font websites and
asked my friend Leo what he was looking for in this design. I created the logo using
basic shapes in Adobe Illustrator and used the different tools to figure out the design
that looked most classy.

Montage
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
May 29, 2016
PROGRAM(S)/TOOLS:
Adobe Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:
A full bleed visual image created using Adobe Photoshop.
OBJECTIVES:
Create a montage to convey a profound message expressing perspective and
significance in light in this world.
PROCESS:
I started by sizing the image to 8.5x11 size then placed the sunset sky image as a
background. I learned how the selection tools, specifically the lasso tool, and how
they each work in their own ways. Next, I moved the picture of the Light House
from one tab to the other and practiced editing edges at 100% opacity, with a softedged brush, I firstly contemplated removing the glow of the feather yet figured
out the edges. Painting away the edges but instead found the glow very beautiful in
this piece. I blended the images together, adapted the sky with a goal of having an
attractive montage. Last but not least I added some my quotation in typography with
two contrasting fonts and I added a layer style using white as the color of my text to
make the text more legible.

Flier
COURSE:
Communications 130, Visual Media
DATE CREATED:
May 7, 2016
PROGRAM:
Adobe InDesign

A promotional flier for a graduate leadership conference in black and white.
OBJECTIVES:
Design a flier reaching out to individuals who have recently graduated to inform
them about a leadership conference which can help them to gain an edge in their
profession as they become strong leaders.
PROCESS:
I created sketches of my own unique fliers that I could potentially create which
helped me to figure out which elements I wanted to use when I created this on
Adobe InDesign. I made sure that my alignment was straight. Contrast of value was
used with the white text on top of a black background to add variations of light and
dark.
