Discussion
Listening is one of the macroskills to be developed by the learners in
order to comprehend and understand situations that deal with listening
activities. It is in this sense that listening skills should be developed
properly to widen understanding and ability to listen effectively and
meaningfully. This is in congruent with the statistics that showed adults
spend almost half their communication time listening and students may
receive as much as 90% of their in-school information through listening to
instructors and to one another. Often, however, language learners do not
recognize the level of effort that goes into developing listening ability. Far
from passively receiving and recording aural input, listeners actively
involve themselves in the interpretation of what they hear, bringing their
own background knowledge and linguistic knowledge to bear on the
information contained in the aural text.
Not all listening is the same; casual greetings, for example, require a
different sort of listening capability than do academic lectures. Language
learning

requires

intentional

listening

that

employs

strategies

for

identifying sounds and making meaning from them. In other words,

listening skill is very vital in acquiring and understanding information
depending on the situations that transpired. To achieve effective listening
skills, the proponents designed PRLTP Listening Remediation Model

Approach to develop listening skills effectively anchored further in the

bottom up approach in achieving basic to complex listening skills in which
the students will experience activities that activate listening skills,
enhancing phonemic awareness, echoreading, checking of comprehension,
suggestopedia and presentation of new stories in teaching listening skills.
Thus, PRLTP Listening Remediation Model Approach is deemed necessary
for effective development of listening skills in the teaching language and
literature.

Description of the Model

PRLTP Listening Remediation Model Approach with 5-day activities is

a model inspired by the bottom up listening strategy in which the learners
learned from the basic to complex listening activities. This Model facilitates
with the pre-listening activities that students are guided helped to activate
listening activities in recognizing sounds of animals, discussing the sounds
of the vowels, spelling words and pair sharing. In Reinforcement,
enhancing phonemic awareness is included to help recall with the sounds
of vowels and consonants in English. In listening for Comprehension, the
teacher will read now a story to the learners and listen to main points. In
therapeutic listening, suggestopedia is used to allow students listened to a
particular story and after that, they will write a reflection paper and lastly,
the presentation of the new story following the steps 3-4 will be recurred
to help reinforced for effective development of listening skills of the
learners in acquiring and understanding information from various listening
activities and situations.

Procedural Activities:
Day 1
The teacher will group the students into two and they will have to
relay the sounds of animals to their members. When the last member of
the line receives the sound as relayed, he/she will everyone that particular
sound of animal in class. After that, the teacher will give spelling bee as a
second activity to the same.
Objectives: At the end of the activity, the students will be able:
1. To identify the sounds of animals properly
2.To write the correct spelling of the word.
Day 2
The teacher will provide a poem intended to be read in class. Each
student will follow on how to read the word or group of words and the
teacher will explain how the words or group of words to be read. After
that, the teacher will group the students into three for spelling bee

contest. Otherwise, words to be spelled will be taken in the just read

poem.
Objectives: At the end of the activity, the students will be able:
1. To read the poem together with the teacher
2. To write the correct spelling of the words/group of words.
Day 3
The teacher will do the echoreading and choral reading with the
students in which the students are going to listen first on how these
activities to be done/delivered. On the other hand, the teacher will listen
to his/her on how the students read and delivered the activities in the
class.
Objectives: At the end of the activity, the students will be able:
1. To perform echoreading and choral reading with the teacher.
2. To evaluate on how students delivered echoreading and choral reading
with the teacher.
Day 4
The teacher will have a storytelling in audio presentation in which
the student will listen to the story. After that, the teacher will encourage
them to write their reflection paper based on the story listened.
Objectives: At the end of the activity, the students will be able:
1. To listen a story through audio presentation
2. To write a reflection paper based on the story presented/listened.
Day 5
Teacher will present other stories following the steps 3-4 which
embodies the listening for comprehension and therapeutic listening
activities to help students explore further their ways of acquiring
information and understanding situations that deal with listening activities.
Objectives: At the end of the activity, the students will be able:

1. To appreciate listening activities for comprehension in teaching

language
2. To value interests therapeutic listening for self-reflection.

Rationale

Listening is one of the vital macroskills to be developed by the

learners. Students with listening difficulties are encouraged to get involved
in remediation class to achieve effective listening skills. Thus, PRLTP
Listening Remediation Model Approach inspired by a bottom up listening
strategy is designed to develop effective listening skills that the students
are involved with listening activities and situations in class.
Objectives
At the end of this program, the following will be established:
1. To design a PRLTP Listening Model Approach addressed to the students
who are at risks with listening skills.
2. To create activities with the use of the Model to help stimulate and
motivate the students to get involved with the listening activities in
class.
3. To appreciate the values and skills learned in listening activities that
will develop students effective listening skills.
