- Apply the design principles and use appropriate
typography.

PHOTO DESIGN

Description: Encorporate a photograph into a

design that will sell something
Date Created: May 22, 2016
Course and Instructor:
Benjamin Pingle
Comm 130-02
Objectives:
- Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match
those colors, then incorporate the colors into the
layout.
- Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance,
sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (nondestructive editing.)
- Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511
page layout.
- Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic
elements in Photoshop.
Process: I picked my color scheme and I looked
around my apartment for things that would match
that color scheme. I found a scarf and a pendent
and started taking pictures with it. When I had
picked the one I liked best and I went to the Spori
and did some work in Photoshop.

MONTAGE

Description: An inspirational image.

Date Created: May 29, 2016
Course and Instructor:
Benjamin Pingle
Comm 130-02
Objectives:
- Unify a layout with a consistent theme and
dominant spiritual message
- Learn to blend two or more images together
gradually, using masks
- Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for
layout with multiple elements
- Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the
image
Process: I figured out in the beginning that I
wanted the Second Coming Christ to be in it.
Trying to decide what I really wanted and what
would actually work was much harder. I played hit
and miss for a while, messing with pictures of the
Stripling Warriors, and rocks, and things. I had to
try everything in order to know beyond a shadow
of a doubt that I the look I ended with was the best
one ever. It really was a long process.

LOGOS

Description: Three variations of the same logo for

the same company.
Date Created: June 5, 2016
Course and Instructor:
Benjamin Pingle
Comm 130-02
Objectives:
- Create three completely different, original logos
to fit a company or personal image that will appeal
to the audience.
- Market research: gather opinions from at least
ten people about which logo appeals most to them.
Process: Well, I used Adobe Illustrator to come up
with three different ideas for logos.

STATIONARY

Description: Matching bussiness card and

letterhead for a fictious company.
Date Created: June 12, 2016
Course and Instructor:
Benjamin Pingle
Comm 130-02
Objectives:
- Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for
a business card and letterhead.
- Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
- Keep designs simple with light watermarks and
drop shadows and plenty of white space.
- Include contact information: name, address,
phone, website, and email on each piece. Use
periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no
parentheses/ hyphens.
Process: Step one was to design a new logo. A few
quick shapes and colors in Illustrator made the
tree and the idea for the grass and the flowers.
Next, I made the business cards. (To make the
business cards I also used Illustrator, but it was
kind of an accident.) After the business cards, I
opened InDesign and made the letterhead, using
the same idea as for the business cards. Et voila!
Cest fini!

topic of choice.

and cut the lighthouse in Photoshop. Having
already written what words I wanted to use, it
then became a matter of assemblage.
