ACTION PLAN

Full name: Nguyn Hng Nhung

Marie Curie School
Class: ICT-HN10-14-2015

A. Introduction
My action plan involves in creating some tasks/activities using ICT
for Unit 5. The media in English 9 textbook. Along with introducing the
tasks/activities, I will give the descriptions in how I created the
tasks/activities and how I apply them in my class.
B. Plan of action
I - My REAL teaching context in relation to ICT
There are 25 students in the class 16 females, 9 males. All are at
grade 9. They are all keen on learning English and at Intermediate level.
Most of them are good at grammar and vocabulary rather than speaking or
listening. All of the students can access to the internet by computer at
home. They are all asked to create an email account to get access to some
online materials created by the teacher. All of them use Facebook.
The classroom is equipped with an overhead projector with big onwall screen and a port for internet connection. There is also a whiteboard in
every classroom.
The teacher has a laptop, a smart phone, a 3G USB, a tablet and a
speaker.

II - My plan to integrate ICT into teaching the above class after finishing
this course
This action plan is based on Unit 5. The media in English 9, Listen and read
task.

1. This is the link to the vocabulary builder part of the task. I use
Hotpotatoes to create this activity.
To create this activity, firstly, I had to choose Jcross in Hotpotatoes. Then,
I chose Automatic Grid-maker under Manage Grid option. After that, I
selected some vocabulary from the listening/reading text to add into the
list to create the crossword. Next, I chose Create Web page under File
option. In the next step, I chose Create SCORM 1.2 Package to create a zip
file. Finally, I upload the file onto my Google Drive.

In class, to get students to do this task, first of all, I have to log on my

Google Drive. Then I choose the zip file created with Hotpotatoes for this
task. After that, I will download the file to my computer. After extracting
the file, I will open the .htm file in the package (not using IE). Finally,
students will have to look at the crossword, read the clues and try to find
the correct answers.
2. This is the link to the activity I created using Storyjumper, ScreencastO-Matic and then uploaded to Youtube.
This activity provides the students with the listening material (with the
pictures and read-along text). This is in the pre-reading task.
To create this activity, firstly, I used Storyjumper to create a story book.
As there were no related pictures available in the sample props, I had to
download some pictures of the town crier, newspaper, magazine, and TV to
use as props in my story book. After finishing the said story book, I used
Screencast-O-Matic to record the screen with the narration of myself
reading aloud the listening text in the book. Finally, I upload my recording
onto Youtube.
This is the pre-reading task, so after introducing what the students are
going to listen to, I will click on the link to the listening task (and readalong) and get students to watch the video. All the students books should
be closed so that they can pay their attention to the on-wall screen.
3. This is the link to the revision part using Quizlet.
To create this study set, firstly, I have to log in Quizlet.com page. Then, I
chose Create a Study Set. Next, I typed terms and the translation on the
correct columns in the list. After finishing adding data to the study set, I
click on Create button. Finally, I click on Share button and enter the emails
of the students in class to send the link to them.

This task is for the students to do as their homework. Therefore, I will

send the link to the students emails. They will do this task to revise the
vocabulary learned in class.
III - The expected outcomes
Using technology integrated into the lesson plan will make the lesson
in class more interesting and make students more engaged to the class
activities. With the above activities/tasks, I hope that the whole students
will be fascinated with the lesson in class and will be more happily revise
the lesson at home.
C. Conclusion
Making ICT happen in class is not difficult. However, problems are
common when it comes to internet. I myself have sometimes coped with
such problems with the internet connection in my teaching in class. No
internet signal, problems with connecting to certain websites are common
at some times. Therefore, I always bring a 3G USB with me in case there is
no internet available in my class.
Another common problem when integrating ICT in the class is that
the time planned for the task/activity is not the same as the real time spent
for the said task/activity in class. I have to give some more extra minutes to
the task/activity involving ICT in my lesson plan in case the real time in
class is longer than expected. I also prepare a small extra task/activity in
case there is some time left in class.
ICT is a system of very powerful tools that teachers can use to make
their lesson more vivid, more attractive and make their students more
enthusiastic, happier with their study. Therefore, ICT should be exploited
popularly in my teaching. I love it!
