Photo design promoting stay chubby

Program(s) used:
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

Date:
May 22, 2016
Course number & section:
Comm130 Section 5
Instructor:
Ben Pingel

Objective:
Explore editing options of Photoshop. Incorporate own photo into a full design.

Process:
I first took this photo of a fruit basket in my kitchen using a simple Canon
point and shoot camera. I later edited the photo using Photoshop - I raised the
contrast, enhanced the brightness, and edited out the entire background. I then

took the photo and moved it to Adobe InDesign. From there I created the curves
on the left using large circle shapes with a thick stroke. I then added the text,
and finished by adding the circles on the right with a shape drawing tool, filled
with colors that match my analogous color scheme.

Description:
Wallie Beck is a blog my husband and I created. This is the business card
design for Wallie Beck.

Program(s) used:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign

Date:
June 12, 2016
Course number & section:
Comm130 Section 5
Instructor:
Ben Pingel

Objective:
Create a custom business card using Adobe programs. Further skill of creating
designs with only limited space.

Process:
I first created Wallie Becks logo using Adobe Illustrator. Then, I moved the
logo over to InDesign and placed it in the center of the back of business card. I
created triangles undernearth the logo using a simple drawing tool. Following
that, I worked on the front side of the business card. I began with creating the
banner, once again using the same process as the repeating triangles on the
back side. With each triangle of the banner I used the color picker and chose
from the Visual Focus color wheel, then altered each color a bit to create
diversity. Finally, I added the text, and downloaded fonts from dafont.com

Matching letter head to the Wallie Beck business card.

Program(s) used:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign

Date:
June 12, 2016
Course number & section:
Comm130 Section 5
Instructor:
Ben Pingel

Objective:
Create a clean, professional letter head for the blog, Wallie Beck. Enhance
personal ability to create simple, yet impactful, designs.

Process:
I had already created the Wallie Beck logo using InDesign (for information on
that process see brochure project), so I moved the logo to InDesign on a 8.5
x 11 inch page. I then recreated the banner (similar to what was designed on
the business card) and added it to the top corner of the letter head. I then used
a text box and added the contact information using a font I had downloaded
from dafont.com, then I changed the color of the text using the color picker. I
completed the design by taking the Wallie Beck logo, changing the opacity to
about 6%, enlarging it, and placing it on the letter head to work as a watermark.

Description:

An event ad for a dress drive held by Utah Bride & Groom, collecting wedding
dresses for a local charity, Wish Upon a Wedding.

Program(s) used:
Microsoft Word

Date:
May 15, 2016
Course number & section:
Comm130 Section 5
Instructor:
Ben Pingel

Objective:
Learn to create an entire design using only Microsoft Word, a program that is
easily accessible for most.

Process:
I first took the background photo (a personal photo from my own wedding) and
scanned it to the appropriate size needed. Then, I added the photo to Microsoft
Word and began creating! I began with taking shape boxes, filling them with a

light pink similar to the wedding dress, then I lowered the opacity so the image
would still be visible behind the text and the boxes. Each box and text within
was created individually, and once that was done I used ruler guides to align
all of the text properly.

Description:
This is a brochure I made for More Fun Travel, a travel company based out of
Vietnam.

Program(s) used:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop & Adobe InDesign

Date:
July 8, 2016
Course number & section:
Comm130 Section 5
Instructor:
Ben Pingel

Objective:
Promote More Fun Travels services and showcase the exciting travel
opportunities they offer. Also, create a large scale project using multiple Adobe
programs.

Process:
I began by design the logo using InDesign. This required that I download new
fonts on dafont.com, then create three seperate text boxes for each line of text.
I added two simple lines and rotated them in the center of the design. Then,
in InDesign I sized the page to 8.5 x 11 inches and sized each individual page
of the brochure using ruler guides. I added each Vietnamese word on the front
cover individually, then placed the logo over top. I added the row of images on
the right side, cut the background of the mountains using Photoshop, added it
to the inside panels of the brochure, then added text that wrapped around the
mountains.

I highly appreciated the flexibility More

private tour. They were very helpful...in
any situation and their knowledge of the
English language was beyond everything
Ive ever experienced. I surely will book
again with More Fun Travel.

incorporated a hashtag was fairly difficult. Once the logo was sketched, though,

I created it using a line drawing tool, and text boxes. I originally styled the logo
using multiple color schemes, then went around my university campus asking

students which color scheme they preferred. Ultimately this split complimentary
color scheme was chosen, using teal, orange, and red.
