This Method of Statement specifies the detailed requirements for Cable trays & cable
ladders installation.

2.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to ensure that PROJECT NAME team is
familiar with the minimum guidelines and measures to be followed during
construction and installation in the PROJECT NAME.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are job description of the principle Project Field Staff personnel
utilized construction of the PROJECT NAME.

5.1.

Project Construction Manager.


Construction Supervisor, (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation)
Field HSE Coordinator/Safety Designate or Safety Officer.
Field Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager.

Project Construction Manager

Reports to the project manager and /or Manager of Construction. His


responsibilities include the supervision of the entire field organization
including field stuff and subcontractors. He has the overall responsibility for
the execution of all contract commitments relating to the field construction
activities in accordance with a specific project plans, schedules, and budgets.
He has the authority to administer all field office activity and direct assigned
personal in meeting company and project objectives.

His specific duties including planning, organizing and direction all field work
to a successful conclusion of the project, meeting contractual obligations and
the Client's expectations while maintaining the company's best interests. He
will establish a site office, personal camps and any additional structures
required to accomplish project goals and administer all field activities in
accordance with company and departmental policies and procedures and
project specifications. He will direct material control activities and all QA/QC
and survey activities. He will administer all subcontractors and participate in
all subcontract negotiations and submit subcontractors, including any third
party companies for approval to the Client prior to signing contract with
subcontractors. Additionally, he will provide job site interface with the Client,

maintain close liaison in all times and attend project meetings with the Client
on a regular basis.

He will also be responsible to provide a copy of all field reports, inspection


documents, and procedures including project activities to the Client upon an
agreed timeline. He will perform any additional project related duties as
required and be responsible for all project documentation which includes
document Turn-Over-Packages and OEM Manual.

He is responsible for the total HSE performance through periodically review


and monitoring. He will ensure the continuous improvement of HSE
performance in order to achieve zero accident. He will direct and support all
safety activities and he is responsible for the provision of PPE for the all site
stuff. He is responsible for taking the counter measures when safety non
conformity report has been issued due to any violation.

5.2.

Construction Supervisor

The Construction Superintended reports to the Project Construction Manager.


His responsibilities include the supervision of, field supervision, Craft
Personnel and subcontractors. He is the responsible for day to day
coordination of all construction activities related to physical progress and
productivity.

Specific duties includes but not limited to organizing and directing all
construction activities, supervising assigned staff personnel and establish
daily productivity goals, monitor productivity and initiate remedial action
where required. He will assist in preparation of reports; participate in all
coordination, scheduling, safety and progress review meeting. He is
responsible for interfacing with engineering and assuring that the latest
drawing and document revisions are circulated to project personnel. He will
also be responsible for interpreting drawings and specifications for field
personnel and subcontractors and coordinate resolution of engineering
problems with the appropriate engineering sttaff and the Client. He will also
notify QA/QC personnel in all QA/QC activities including any deficiencies
found during construction. He is also responsible for development of field
test data and punch lists.

His responsibilities for Understanding the Health, Safety and Environment


Plan fully and following the same in their day-to-day activities, giving safety
instructions to their sttaf and subcontractor on a daily basis as a part of the
job instructions, highlighting the possible hazards in that days work and the
precautions to be taken, keeping their work area neat and clean especially at
heights free from loose materials, taking an active part in the site safety
meetings, organizing toolbox talks to their workmen every week, taking
suitable corrective measures on the observations made by the safety Officer
of the site and sending the employees to the safety Officer before deploying
them at site so that safety induction can be given to them.

5.3.

Field HSE Coordinator

The safety coordinator reports to the Project Construction Manager and is


responsible for Project Safety and implementation of an effective safety
program including initiating a daily job safety analysis (JSA). Where the
Client's Safety requirements is more stringent that the Contractor's safety
program, the Client's safety program will be met. He is responsible for
establishing first aid facilities and the requisition of all necessary safety, first
aid and fire prevention equipment required to have an effective project
safety system in place.

He is responsible for maintaining a continuous inspection of jobsite and


report any unsafe acts or conditions to the responsible supervisor. Serious
violations must be reported immediately to the Project Construction Manager
and the Contractor. He will preview and monitor all subcontractor safety
programs and provide assistance upon request. He will also organize, train
and attend weekly safety meetings for all levels of supervision and
investigate all accidents and submit accident reports as required by law and
Client safety policy. He will maintain all safety records and issue Monthly
safety reports.

5.4. QA/QC Coordinator

The QA/QC Manager is responsible to the Project Construction Manager in all


activities pertaining to quality. He is responsible for all daily activities and
supervision of field QC inspectors.

He will supervise and/or perform inspections of work, in progress and


completed to conform to project drawings, specifications, applicable Codes
and Standards and keeping with the requirements of good industry practices.
QA/QC Coordinator is responsible for technical aspects on site and
coordination with Client inspections, witness and hold points. He is
responsible for performing audit of subcontractor's reports, logs and other
documentation to assure conformance with Project Specifications. He will
monitor and inspect divers segments of work, including, but not limited to
installation of steel structure, equipment, piping electrical and
instrumentation.

6.

Perform hand on inspections and witness tests and keep documents in an


organized fashion for final turn-over of project documentation. Be prepared
for Client audits which can be performed without audit notification. Maintain
master files containing all inspection and test documents.

STORAGE & HANDLING


Cable trays and ladders shall be unloaded with care to avoid any damages.
Every precaution shall be taken to preserve their cleanliness before
installation. Store in accordance with manufacturers instructions, properly

protected from construction activities and covered by tarpaulin to protect


them from weather conditions.
Ensure temporary protection provided to protect from damage while in transit
are removed and units are free from damage and clean internally and
externally.
Loading and unloading of Cable trays, Cable Ladder should be carried out by
hand and use of skids should be avoided. This material should not be dragged
along rough surface. Extra care should be exercised in handling to avoid
damage to the surfaces.

7.

PREPARATION & INSATLLATION

7.1. Preparation work


Check that installation material is delivered in standard packing and in correct
/ required quantities.
Ensure that all necessary certification and approved construction drawings of
current revision are available prior to installation.
Calculations for Trays loads and supports shall be verified before installation.
Prior to commencement of any works, access and installation areas will be
inspected to confirm they are in suitable condition to receive cable
tray/ladder, for compliance with installation tolerances and other conditions.
Examine the absence of any physical damage and visible imperfection.
Check the installation area is tidy, safe and free from construction debris.

7.2. Installation
Install cable trays / ladders with sufficient space to permit access for installing
cables. Minimum clearance of 250 mm is to be maintained between top of
tray / ladder and ceiling, beams and other services and between tray /
ladders in multi-tier formation.
Mark out the location of hangers & supports for cable tray and cable ladder
installation as per the approved construction drawings.
Drill the marked position for hangers and supports by using the drill bit of
appropriate size.
Fix the flush anchor at drilled position by gentle and uniform hammering.
During hammering use the approved "Setting Tool" of appropriate size for
proper grip of the anchor in concrete. Care should be taken to avoid
damaging the thread of the rod
Fix the threaded rod by twisting. For easy and balance twisting of the rod use
any clamping tool like pliers etc. Care should be exercised to avoid any
damage to the threads.
The hanging supports for cable tray/ladder will be cut in the required size,
reamed properly and galvafroid paint will applied on cut edges.
After fixing the threading rod and hanging supports and prior to fixing the
tray/ladder at its location. Cut the required length (If not available in the
required size). Apply galvafroid on all cut edges.

After cutting ladder and tray should reamed properly to remove burr and
sharp edges to minimize the danger and treat cut edges.
Place the cable tray/ladder in the support with expansion connectors, if length
is more than 27 mtr.
Install connectors and earth links at the bottom of all cable tray/ladder joints.
In case of change in direction/elevation use standard fittings and specials of
the approved manufacturer.
Additional support shall be provided where cable tray/ladder changes direction
or cables drop outs.
Install covers after installation of cable is completed.
Seal penetrations through fire and smoke barriers with appropriate material.
For grounding connect trays / ladders by flexible tinned copper straps to
nearest bare earthing conductor and at maximum 30-m spacing.

8.

CLEANING
After completion of installation, remove burrs, dirt, and construction debris
and repair any damages, scratches and abrasion.

9.

EQUIPMENTS REQUIREMENT
The equipment that will be required in the installation works of cable tray/ladder
will be as follows:
High-up truck
Drill machine
Step ladder
Electrical cutting machine
Screw drivers
Measuring tape

10. SAFETY
All personnel involved in Cable tray/ladder installation shall follow the
requirements of the HSE Plan. All works HAZARDS shall be identified prior to
the start of the activity. safety coordinator shall insure that all operations are
carried out in accordance with Project Safety Procedures.

11. DOCUMENTATION
Quality Control department shall retain all Material Certificates, tests, and
inspection records.
