VBS TRAINING
COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
June 15, 2016
The St. Johns Council continued discussion of a
mission/vision statement. Pastor David pointed out
that we are living out our mission but it is not
articulated. The council will continue thinking about
and discussing this important part of our
congregations profile with the intention of seeking
the input of our new senior pastor.
The Ministry Site Profile changes were described
and discussed. An added emphasis on Youth and
Family Ministry and an explanation of the
Mission/Vision Statement process were included in
the rewrite. Some parts of the profile were also
rewritten to express the congregations focus more
clearly. The updated MSP has now been submitted
to the synod office for distribution to potential
candidates.
Additional time was spent on reports about Gods
Work, Our Hands Sunday on September 11th, a
Synod Assembly report from Ron Lofgren, and some
discussion about the plans for 50 Years on the Hill
on December 11th.
A complete copy of the minutes is available by mail
or email by contacting the church office.

There will be a VBS training on July

27th starting at 6:00 pm with pizza and drinks.
The first half will be information for small group
(family) leaders and the second half for
shopkeepers to find out details for what they will
be doing. Shopkeepers - you can look over your
manual information and set up shop during the
first half of training and I can answer any
questions you may have later.
Monday, July 25th - Friday, July, 29th, Jolene
will be decorating in the evenings:
Monday,Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, from
6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Please call the office if you
would like to help in the evening. Jolene will
also be decorating during the day:
Monday through Friday, from 12:30 pm to
4:30 pm. Anyone can drop in at those times
during the day!

The St. Johns 2016

Garage Sale raised
$2,008.31 for Bright
Horizons. A HUGE
THANK YOU to anyone
who donated items, gave
amonetary donation, shopped at the sale or
assisted in any way. THANK YOU!!!
Your generosity was greatly appreciated.
The Garage Sale Gang
We at Bright Horizons cannot thank St. Johns
Lutheran Church enough for your continued
support. Bright Horizons is a local agency that
helps victims of domestic violence and sexual
assault, and on average we help over 1,000
people per year. The funds raised at your annual
Garage Sale help to fill the financial gaps.
Shelter expenses, transportation for victims and
emergency housing are just a few examples in
which the Garage Sale funds have helped us.
Thank you again for your support!

CALL COMMITTEE REPORT

The Ministry Site Profile (MSP) of St. Johns has
been updated and has now been submitted to the
Nebraska Synod office. The MSP is a tool that helps
match congregations with a rostered leader whose
gifts are a good fit for their current mission needs
and priorities. Copies of the updated MSP are
available at the church office.
The church council recently voted to appoint Lisa
Echtenkamp to the call committee to fill Katrina
Tomsens position since she has moved away.
Since August of 2015 the synod office has supplied
us with six candidate names and after considerable
research and thoughtful prayer, the call committee
and church council determined these candidates
would not be a suitable match for St. Johns.
As we work to call a senior pastor to our
congregation, we ask for your patience and prayers
that the Holy Spirit will guide us.
Call Committee,
Karen Widhalm, Brian Sterud, Rollie Downs,
Linda Stephenson, Lisa Echtenkamp, John Skogstoe

Its time to Order your T-Shirts!

Gods work. Our Hands.
Sunday, September 11
Dont miss out on getting your yellow t-shirt for
Gods Work Our Hands Sunday! T-shirt orders
for our Community Day of Service will be
collected through the first week in August (cost
is $10/shirt). The day of service is Sunday, Sept.
11th. T-shirts are the same as last year so you
can wear the one from last year, order a new
one if you missed out last year, or get a second
one to have a spare. Even if you are uncertain if
you can help on the day of service, there are
plenty of other opportunities throughout the
year to wear the T-shirt. T-shirts are
personalized with our congregations name on
the back. Sample t-shirts for sizing purposes
are hanging in the back of the sanctuary. Circle
your size on the registration slip or call the
office to let them know your size. Dont forget
to include $10 per shirt made payable to St.
Johns & designate the money for t-shirt.

Get Involved!
If youre an idea person, we need YOU to
help plan our Community Day of Service: Gods
Work. Our Hands. If youre interested in helping
plan this fun day, sign up on the registration
form or talk to Tracy Meister: 750-5734. The
team will be getting together soon to
brainstorm and plan our Sept. 11th day of
service!
