Agenda
1.0 The Head of English Panel Speech.
Pn Asnida Bt Abdullah expressed her thanks for all the teachers attendance to discuss the
analysis of the English Language PKSR 2 and also to do a postmortem on the results.
2.0 Read the First meeting Report.
The Secretary read the second meeting for clarification and accepted by the
committee.

3.0 Analysis of English language PKSR 2 2014 Results.
Pn Asnida Bt Abdullah read out the results to the English panel. The results are as
follow:

Number of passes 64.4 %
GPS -3.25
We are still the lowest among the five UPSR papers even though we have gained 0.2 %
of increase. We still have to work hard to improve.

4.0 The strength and the weakness identified in the English PKSR2.
The English Language Unit members identified the strength of the pupils proficiency
based on the item analysis done by language teachers as follow.
4.1 The Strengths found based on the PKSR2 are as follow:

Pupils are able to identify the key words in the questions to select the correct
answer.
Pupils are able to make simple sentences and compound sentences.
They are able to use suitable words and phrase in writing.
Pupils are able to identify main ideas and supporting details in answering
comprehension questions.
Some pupils are able to write good essay where there is flow in writing their ideas
and elaborate the words in their writing.
Pupils are able to grasp some grammar skills such as simple present tense,
continuous ad simple past tense.
Even though the format will change next year, the skills above are the basic
knowledge needed to answer the English question paper.

4.2. The Weaknesses found based on PKSR 2 are as follow:


Weak pupils were still poor in their reading skills thus affect in answering the
questions.
Poor comprehension skills.
Still weak in answering vocabulary tested in the paper.
Weak pupils were able to write sentences in chunks, therefore the meaning is
unclear.

A number of pupils were unable to grasp vocabulary especially antonyms,


synonyms, collective nouns and occupations.
Poor attendances worsen the situation plus uncooperativeness in completing their
daily tasks assigned by the teacher.
5.0 Actions to overcome problems;

More drilling according to the topical skills such as grammar.


More exercise in writing by giving UPSR clone exercises , for example , using
exercise in Didik newspaper ,past years questions, Write it Right, Amanjaya
Module and React modules.
Discussion with the pupils about their mistakes and give them remedial activities.
Give the pupils list of vocabulary words and helping phrase to help in their
writing and answering questions in section A (vocabulary) and B ( language forms
and functions).
More group work and cooperative learning to assist the weak pupils in their
language.
Rewards and tokens to increase pupils interest in learning English.

6.0 . Other Matters.

The Head of English Language Unit asked the teachers to look into the pupils
mistakes and take initiative to overcome the problems in the classroom.
Teachers are reminded to use suitable approaches in teaching and learning
process in the classroom.

7.0 Closure.
Pn Asnida Bt Abdullah hope that the teachers will carry out the effective methods of
activities to improve the pupils proficiency as well as to improve the results.
