Hotel hits
the mark

But my fianc Steve and I knew

there was an amazing prize waiting
for us at the end of the winding single track roads.
Its called Ardanaiseig and the
stunning hotel proved to be the perfect place to discover the best our
beautiful country has to offer.
The amazing venue sits on Loch
Awe with stunning scenery all
around. And it felt like we had
stepped into fairytale as the magical
setting came into view.
The building dates back to 1834
with looming turrets and climbing
vines making it extremely enchanting. Inside, Ardanaiseig is seriously
impressive. With vintage furniture
and unique trinkets at every corner,
you feel like youve travelled back in
time.
Steve and I stayed in the Cuaig
room a master garden view
which featured a stunning claw foot
bath set on its own elevated platform.
Another interesting addition was
the bed, at first a seemingly normal
yet ornate double but turns out it
hid a secret Baby Spice aka Emma
Bunton once rested her head on it.
Thats right, according to the
events manager Louise, the hotels
owner is an antiques fan and picked
up the celeb bed at an auction.
After settling in and kindly being
given a loan of some midge repellent
they are rampant in this part of
Scotland, be warned we explored
the amazing grounds before making
our way to dinner. We enjoyed some

pre-meal drinks in the bar and were

given the menu to make our choices
before going to our table.
This was a great touch as it meant
less waiting in the dining room
although we would happily have
spent many hours there with its fantastic views over the loch and the
amazing food. Steve and I both
tucked into charred sirloin of Angus

beef with onion, oxtail and

potato.
For dessert, it appeared I
was eating a terrarium
the dark chocolate pot, with orange
jam and white chocolate mousse was
so colourful and full of orange zest it
looked like a mini garden.
The next day we took at advantage
of some of the activities on offer at
Ardanaiseig when the hotels ghillie,
Steve, took us to the huge walled
garden nestled in the middle of the
woods to do some archery.
I was in an archery club for a
while so Steve even let me try his
own vintage bow from 1979 while my
fianc tried his best to hit the target.
Next up was a loch adventure
where we became captains of our
own motorised boat.
As complete boating novices Steve
made sure to give us a detail map to
make our way safely across the
water to the ancient Kilchurn Castle.
We set off and all was going well
until we landed in deep water well

actually really shallow water, so

shallow that our boat became stuck
on the loch bed between two islands.
We tried in vain to row to shore
but it was no use so I rolled up my
jeans and jumped into the freezing
loch to push the boat into deeper
water. Back at the hotel our weekend
stay was topped off by another brilliant meal.
This time it was scallops, duck
breast and banoffee pie and a
lovely bottle of wine followed by a
soak in the huge bath tub before settling into bed for another night of
bliss The whole stay at Ardanaiseig
felt like we were in an episode of
Outlander with the rolling hills,
ruined castle and murky loch.
It is definitely well-worth the trek,
in fact the drive is as much part of
the trip as the stay itself.
