Materials: Schachenmayr original Boston Style, 2
balls [50g] of #00532 burgundy color.
US 11 [8mm], 16 [40cm] circular needle, and 1 set of 5
double-pointed needles, or size to obtain gauge.
Stitch marker.
Tapestry needle.
Rib Pattern: (multiple of 2 stitches)
Round 1: *Purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * around.
Repeat round 1 for the pattern.
Textured Pattern: (multiple of 2 stitches)
Round 1: Knit into the front and back of each stitch
around the number of stitches has been doubled.
Round 2: *Knit 2 together, purl 2 together; repeat from
* around the number of stitches has returned to the
original number.
Round 3: Repeat round 1 the number of stitches has
been doubled.
Round 4: *Purl 2 together, knit 2 together; repeat from
* around the number of stitches has returned to the
original number.
Repeat rounds 1 4 for the pattern.
Gauge: 9 stitches and 19 rounds = 4 [10cm] in the
textured pattern.

Begin the Rib Pattern and work until piece measures

10 [26cm].
Shape top: Next (decrease) round: Slip 1, *knit 2
together; repeat from * to last stitch, slip the last
stitch, remove the beginning of round marker, slip
the last back to the left needle, knit 2 together, place
marker for a new beginning of round 22 stitches.
Knit 2 rounds even.
Next (decrease) round: *Knit 2 together; repeat
from * around 11 stitches.
Cut yarn. Thread cut end through a tapestry needle
and draw the yarn through the remaining stitches.
Pull tight to gather the top of the hat. Fasten securely on the inside.
Hat measures 11 [28cm] tall.
Finishing: Weave in the ends.

Notes: This hat is worked in the round from the bottom

up, beginning with the circular needles. Change to
double-pointed needles when there are too few stitches
to work comfortably on the circular needle.
The number of stiches given in the pattern refers to the
original number of stitches cast on.

INSTRUCTIONS
With the circular needle, cast on 44 stitches. Place
marker for the beginning of the round, and join to work
in rounds.
Knit 1 round.
Begin the Textured Pattern and work until piece
measures 8 [22cm], ending with a round 2 of the
pattern repeat.
