Overview:
This course provides students with the skills they need to become successful Oracle Linux System Administrators.
Students will learn how to install Oracle Linux and gain an understanding of the benefits of Oracle's Unbreakable
Enterprise Kernel (UEK). The course provides hands-on training which allows students to configure the kernel, install
packages, and update the kernel of a running system. Students will also learn how to configure users and rights, create
and manage file systems, configure networking, and manage system security. The class concludes by providing best
practices on how to properly prepare a Linux environment for installation of Oracle Database.

Administrator System Administrator Technical Consultant

Objectives:
Prepare Oracle Linux System for Oracle Databases

Maintain swap space

Install Oracle Linux and load and configure the Unbreakable


Enterprise Kernel

Use Logical Volume Manager (LVM)


Configure RAID devices

Install software packages from Unbreakable Linux Network and


other repositories

Configure Networking and Networking services (DHCP, DNS)

Use Ksplice to update the kernel on a running system

Configure File Sharing services (NFS, Samba, FTP, OpenSSH)

Configure system logging

Configure Directory and Authentication Services (NIS, LDAP,


Winbind, Kerberos)

Load kernel modules and configure kernel module parameters


Perform User and Group administration

Perform Security Administration (SELinux, iptables, chroot, TCP


wrappers)

Create filesystems
