affairs are managed by the Council of the Ceylon
Medical College College Council
Property not include property transferred to
the ownership or control of the University of

5(1). The council of the Ceylon Medical Council
(a) DGHS
(b) DDGHS/ DDGMS
(c) Professor of Medicine University of Ceylon
(d) Professor of Surgery
(e) Professor of Anatomy
(f) Professor of Physiology
(g) Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology
(h) Teacher in any Government Nurses Training School
(i) Member of B.Pharm/ PS/ any equivalent
(j) Medical Practitioner- not a Lecturer, not a
government officer, not a pensionable person from

7(1). Award certificates who passed the prescribed

(b) certificate of efficiency as apothecaries
(c) certificate of efficiency as Pharmacists
(d) certificate of efficiency as nurses

7(2). In any matter College Council may be deprived of


such diploma or certificate

12(1). 11 member ( president & vice president)
a) President nominated by minister
b) 1 member teachers of Faculty of Medicine at
University of Ceylon
c) 2 members registered medical practitioners under
medical act
d) 2 members - all other medical practitioners
e) 1 member dentists
f) 4 members nominated by minister

20(1). Keep following registers according to 1st schedule;
a) Medical practitioners
b) Dentists
c) Midwives
d) Pharmacists
e) Nurses
f) Member of a profession supplementary to Medicine
20(2). Not register - < 21 years
20(3). No outsiders can register except of approval of
President of Sri Lanka

20(4). Registrar enter name of registered members & report them in next
meeting

20(5). Registrar can remove name of a member from one register to be


entered in another according to rules & regulations

20(6). An applicant should give a declaration before a justice of peace or a


commissioner of oath fro registration

20(7). Registrar go to MC for any doubt

20(8). Alien Person other than the Commonwealth citizen

21. Made or produced false representation or declaration
in orally or writing ;
liable to imprisonment for 2 years
not exceeding Rs. 2000/- rupees

23(1). Change residence notify new address

24(1). Any further degrees/qualifications which are obtained
other than the previous, they will be inserted

a) Erase name from register

25(2). An opportunity of showing reasons for excuses
25(3). MC may employ the services of;
a) A proctor or counsel- to lead the evidence &
present the case against such person
b) A proctor or counsel to advice the council to act
as judicial purposes

date
26(1). Registrar should keep register correct & up to date
Cancel name of any person who has died

26(2). Registrar can erase or correct any entry in accordance to


any fraudulently or incorrectly made
Then should include reason fro every erasure or correction

27. Put a copy of each register at least 1st January of each year to
publish in Gazette.

28(1). All proceeding civil/ criminal
a) Extract from/ copy of registers certified by the
registrar 1ry evidence
b) Certificate by registrar to say not registered is
primarily essential
28(2). If there the original signature of registrar for any extract/
copy then no proof need to be given

Qualification for registration as pharmacist


When may pharmacists name be erased from register
Unlawful pretence to be a pharmacist
Restriction on practice of Pharmacy by unqualified persons
Name and qualification of pharmacist to be exhibited in shop

pharmacist
56(1). Good character to be register as pharmacist;
a) Under Pharmacy Acts Pharmaceutical chemist,
chemist or druggist
b) Apprenticeship for 2 years as 6th schedulecertificate of efficiency as a pharmacist
c) Qualified apothecary

56(2). Fees for registration as pharmacist Rs.25/Fees for registration as apothecary Rs.10/No fee payable from apothecary if he still in government
service
56(3). No medical practitioners register as a pharmacist
56(4). A Pharmacist register as a medical practitioner remove
name in pharmacy register

When may pharmacists name be erased


from register
57. Name of a pharmacist erased from register if;
a) Conviction for an offence
b) Prevent of having any diploma, degree or certificate
thereafter
c) Show him to be unfit to practice as a pharmacist
d) In any incapacity not allowed to continue the practice
as pharmacist

Unlawful pretence to be a pharmacist


58(1). A person not being a pharmacist/ assume or use name,
title, addition or sign implying as a pharmacist/chemist & druggist/
druggist/ dispensing chemist can act as pharmacist or dispense
drugs/ poisons
58(2). Register as pharmacist should not use title as
pharmaceutical chemist/ pharmaceutics
58(3). Any person who has implied as pharmacist and also having
previous informed name with registrar cant employ as a
pharmacist to manage the sale & dispensing of poisons

unqualified persons
59. Not being a pharmacist no permission to practice/
publish his/her name as practicing pharmacy.
