Term

Definition

Atom

A single data element in the database. Atoms can exist in various forms,
including (but not limited to) a single bit (e.g., auto/manual), a floating point
number, a tagname or a multi-character legend; there is no predefined limit to
the size of an atom.

Banner

A header page which precedes a printout, which contains identifying information. This is especially useful when the user initiating the printout is not in the
immediate vicinity of the printer.

Closed loop control A control system in which the controlled variable is measured and compared
system
with a standard (set point) representing the desired performance. From this
comparison (feedback), the system compensates to eliminate any deviation
between the set point and the controlled variable.

Point Display

Section 3

Introduction
The point display provides detailed information for a tag in the
global database, including information not shown on the
group display. In addition, the parameters of a tag may be
changed from the point display.
This section provides information on the point displays used to
control and monitor the Freelance 2000 Compact Automation
System.

Point Display Appearance

The appearance of a tag display varies according to the module
type, the point display for every tag type will contain the following components, as shown in the point display for an analog module (Fig. 3-1).
NOTE: Operation of the zoom item on the group display menu bar is identical
to that of the zoom item found on graphic displays; refer to Conductor NT Display Editors instruction for further information.

Point Display Appearance

Tag Name
The point tag name appears in the upper left corner of the
point display. The full tag name (up to 16 characters) is
shown.

Tag Description
The full tag description (up to 40 characters) appears immediately below the tag name.

Status Area
The status area appears immediately below the legend. Each
faceplate status area contains an ACK button. This button
appears when an unacknowledged alarm exists for the point.
Click ACK to acknowledge the alarm or, if the operator window
containing the alarm indicator has keyboard focus, press
ALT-F10 on the keyboard to acknowledge all tags in the group
which are in alarm. If no acknowledged alarm exists for the
tag, ACK is not visible.
The blue button under ACK can be used to manually inhibit/
uninhibit the display alarms. If the alarms are uninhibited the
button bears the lable Inh. If the alarms are inhibited the label
changes to UnI and the letter (i) appears in the alarm status
indicator, indicating manual inhibition.
The alarm status indicator is located right of Ack. It contains a
character string indicating the highest priority alarm produced
by the module (refer to Alarm Status Messages in Section 2)
plus the letter (a) if another module has issued an alarm
inhibit or the letter (i) if manual inhibiting was specified.
The module status appears eneath the module status, either
On or Off.

Info Pushbutton
The Info pushbutton appears at the top right corner of the
point display. Click on this pushbutton to view the Information
window (Fig. 3-2) which contains the following information on

Param appears at the top right corner of the point display.
Click Param to view the parameter window (Fig. 3-3).
The parameter window allows the user with appropriate access
rights, to change the parameters for a function. The parameters window contains a list of parameters which is specific for
each function. Access level to each parameter can be modified
in the Freelance 2000 add-on configuration tool.
The parameter window allows the user to change the parameters for the point. The parameter window contains a numbered
list of parameters. The contents of this list is different for each
module type; typical parameters include items such as alarm
limit and deadband values and instrument ranges. If the list
contains more than ten parameters, the vertical scroll bar
must be used to view the additional parameters.
Each entry in the list contains the atom name, description,
and current value of parameter. A new value for a parameter
can be entered in the next entry box which appears at the right

side of each line. Keyboard focus can be moved from one entry
box to another by using the up and down arrow keys, by
pressing ENTER, or by clicking on an entry box.
When all of the new values have been entered in the appropriate entry boxes, click Apply or OK to actually change the
parameters in the process station. Use Apply when repetitive
parameter changes will be made; for example, when performing tuning operations. When OK is used, the changes will be
accepted and the parameter window will close.
An operator action message is generated for each successful
parameter change. If the changes do not succeed, a window
will appear with messages describing the problem (for example, the requested change may be outside the permitted range
for the parameter).

Process Display Area

The rest of the point display is called the process display area.
The information shown in the process display area is determined by tag type.
The process display area for all tag types is similar to that for
an analog module, as follows: on the lower right side appears
the same information shown on the group display (value bar,
alarm bar, control buttons, etc.). To the left of that information
appears a current trend display, which plots the process value
of the point against time, every second, for up to two minutes.
This trend begins plotting only when the point display is called

Event Bit Name Configuration

Section 7

Introduction
Event bits are a set of 4,096 group-wide event flags which can
be set to indicate that an event has occurred. Using event bit
name configuration, a name can be assigned to each event bit.
For Freelance 2000, this name must correspond to an event
type Digitool function block configured in one of the D-PS stations supervised by Conductor NT. Other features on the Conductor NT, such as the historical database, can then be
configured to reference the event bit by name. Select Event Bit
Names from the network parameters menu to display the event
bit configuration window (Fig. 7-1).
NOTE: If a light client is being run, the event bit configuration can be run only
from the node where the data base resides. This node should be a server
node.

ADP Panel

ES0035B

Figure 9-4. OPC Gateway Configuration Window

ADP Panel
The annunciator display panel (ADP) panel user interface is
controlled by the process alarm window (PAW). The PAW provides a soft interface window for displaying ADP group status
as well as a configuration point for defining the action that will
be taken when an ADP key is pressed.
To determine which LEDs will light when a point goes into
alarm and to determine which display to call up when an ADP
button is pressed are both handled by separate tasks.
The assignment of a tag to the ADP is included in the function
blocks configuration. To assign an ADP LED to any tag, call
the configuration window of the tag in the Digitool program
(Fig. 9-5).
The ADP number must be configured in the long text with the
following syntax:
Long text ADPX,Y, where X is the panel number and Y the LED
number on the panel.

FBPEEUI340004C0

ADP Panel

ES0036A

Figure 9-5. Tag Properties

Configuration of which LED or indicator to turn on, and which

display to call up when a button is pressed is the responsibility of the Conductor NT.
Soft ADP configuration is started by selecting the ADP panel
number and then right clicking on the key to be configured.
Right shift-clicking on a button will bring up the configuration
window for the alternate (yellow indicator) button. A menu will
appear where the mouse pointer is located. The pop-up menu
contains two items and a label. The label is the six-character
label configured for the button.
The other two items are menu selections. The first one,
Description, will cause the description field window to appear.
The description field is one of the items that can be configured
for the button by selecting the second menu item, Configure.
In Figure 9-6 the default label of -None- is shown. The label
can be changed by selecting Configure.
The Configuration window consists of three sections. The first
section displays the ADP panel and button number, and the
ADP group number assignment. Change the ADP group

assignment through the ADP text entry box. The Panel and
Button text fields are strictly for display only. Changing one of
the numbers will not make the configuration window focus on
a different button.
The second section provides the configuration for the display
that will show when the button is pressed, the button label,
and the button description. The display configuration is made
by selecting one of the items in the list. If an item is selected
that needs further qualification (the first five items), a window
will appear prompting entry of the complete information. For
example, if Point is selected, a window will be displayed. The
entry box is used to enter a valid tag name. When the user
presses the button, or clicks on the soft button, the corresponding point display will appear in the operator window.
The last section of the configuration window is the control section. There are four buttons in this section; OK, Apply, Cancel,
and ? or help button.

9-6

By selecting OK, all changes that have been made are

accepted and saved and the window exits.

By selecting Apply, all changes are accepted and saved and

the window stays open. The user can then change informaFBPEEUI340004C0

Alarm Inhibition

Section 11

Introduction
In Conductor NT, alarms can be inhibited using alarm inhibition configuration tools. This section describes these configuration tools.

Alarm Inhibition Configuration

Alarms originating in D-PS processing stations can be inhibited from the Conductor NT system status view. Inhibition can
be either manual (initiated by the user) or automatic (initiated
by another alarm).
If automatic inhibition is configured, it is still possible to display inhibited alarms in Conductor NT with a priority of 16
and an acknowledged status using the Send Message option.
For each Freelance 2000 project, access to the alarm inhibition configuration is obtained from the project icon in the system status view. To open alarm inhibition configuration click
the project name then select Manual Alarm Inhibition or Automatic Alarm Inhibition. This inhibition configuration is synchronized with the project data base, if necessary, in which
case it possesses the same access level as the data base configuration.
NOTE: If inhibition is deactivated the alarms present will reappear with their
original date, which makes it more difficult to read the event historian.

Manual Alarm Inhibition

Use Manual Alarm Inhibition to open the manual alarm inhibition window (Fig. 11-1). In the list area to the right the configuration tool can call up all the modules (or tags) in the project
data base, showing information under three headings:

FBPEEUI340004C0

Inhibit status: yes for inhibited, no for uninhibited.

Select the modules to be inhibited by clicking the individual

names or selecting groups of names with SHIFT and CTRL, then
click the > arrow between the two list areas.

Applying a Filter
A filter can be applied to the modules shown in the left area
before making selections. To do this, click Filter. The filtering
definition window appears. This window is used to filter by
area, ADP, module or inhibition state. Multiple filters can be
defined. After configuring the filters click OK to apply.
Click Area to open the area filter window (Fig. 11-2). Select or
deselect the required areas. A selected box means that the
modules assigned to that area will not be displayed.
Click ADP to open the ADP filter window (Fig. 11-3). Click
ADP1 to ADP4 to specify which ADP panel to configure. Select
or deselect the required ADPs. A selected box means that the
modules assigned to the LED will not be displayed. Select the
box opposite NoADP to not display the modules with no ADP.
Click Module to open the module filter window. Unlike the
other windows, this window sets the modules that will be displayed. The wildcard character * is permitted. Type in the
module name or string and click OK.

Inhibit/Uninhibit
After filtering and selecting the modules they can be inhibited
or uninhibited. To do this, check Modules Inhibited or Modules
Uninhibited. The modules then move back automatically to the
left display area.

Time-Out
It is possible to set a time-out for each module. Time-outs are
used to automatically uninhibit items after a given period of
time (expressed in minutes). A zero value indicates that there
is no time-out. To apply a time-out, click Time-Out or double
click the desired module. The time-out configuration window
appears (Fig. 11-4). To change the time-out, click the module
to be changed and then Edit. Click Set All to change the
time-out of all the modules shown in the window. The value
entered in Init Timer is the time-out expressed in minutes.

Select one or more modules to configure then click Edit. The
criteria definition window appears (Fig. 11-6). It is possible to
set four tag.atoms to automatically inhibit the tags being configured when a tag.atom switches to the alarm state. Enter a
module name and tag for each criteria. This information can
be typed or selected using the list.
Use Send Message to enable alarms to be reported to Conductor NT with a priority of 16 and be acknowledged, even if the
item is automatically inhibited.

Switch to either off, on, stop, skip, or scroll operation mode. A red state indicator shows the current
operating mode.
Off: The time scheduler exits its cyclical processing and outputs the ancillary value 0. Execution
time from start to completion is set back to 0.
Stop: The time schedulers output holds a constant value, namely the value present there at the
precise moment the Stop instruction is issued. This
status is maintained until a different execution
mode is selected. The execution time since start is
continued in this option.
On: The time scheduler begins processing from
its current position. If it was previously interrupted
by a Stop in the middle of a program, it will resume
processing from that precise point when the operator switches over to On. If, on the other hand, it had
status Off, it will start at the beginning of the program.
Skip: The time scheduler leaves the current section and starts processing the next section.

A-6

Graphical
format

The time sequence is displayed in a graphical format by plotting two trends. The green trend represents the defined set trend. The blue one shows the
actual progression of the time schedulers output
value, and it may not necessarily coincide with the
set trend. The actual value will be indicated by a
yellow rectangle.

Appendix B

Introduction
The atoms give access to all the information on the modules or
the values of the Freelance variables in order to display it in
the mimic displays or use them in the various Conductor NT
displays.
An atom represented by a name not exceeding 16 letters, is a
concatenation of one or two character strings. An atom can be
of one of the following types:

I: Integer,
R: Real number,
Cn: String of n characters.

The names can be either fully upper case or fully lower case.

For an atom name in upper case, an error code is displayed if the information cannot be accessed. A triangle
appears in the mimic displays.

For an atom name in lower case, a default value is given if

the information cannot be accessed. No triangle appears in
the mimic displays.

The value by default is:

Empty string for a character string.

3.4E+38 for a real number.
0 for information of the Freelance ULONG type.
-1 for any other information.

Parameter Names
This section refers to the parameter entries for the individual
function blocks. The choice of input pins and output pins is
described in the Freelance 2000 documentation. The tables
are structured as follows:

The first column shows the name of the parameter.

The second shows the data type of the parameter.

The third column shows whether or not the parameter is

configurable in the parameter-definition masks.

The fourth column shows comments.

If Yes is entered in the Configurable column then the
parameter will be shown in the parameter-definition mask
while if No is entered here the parameter will normally be
used for display purposes, e.g., the arrows indicating
direction of running in the function block IDF_1.

FBPEEUI340004C0

The last column refers to the Ref. No. entry Table B-68.
Exponents are as specified in the Comment column.
