Analysis and Comprehension:
1. What is the prevailing direction of wind in the region: Above and 60N latitude? Easterly Between 60N and 30N? Westerly Between 30N and the equator? Easterly 2. Which location probably has the same kind of weather year round? E. Because it is located at the equator. 3. What factor could cause location F to have a colder yearly climate than any other location? Because the location is at higher elevation and as altitude increases temperature decreases. 4. What factors could cause location E to have the greatest annual rainfall? E is located on the coast, on the windward of the mountain thus there would be more rainfall. 5. Which city, C or D, would you expect to have a greater annual rainfall? D would have greater annual rainfall because it is on the windward side. 6. Which city, A or B, would you expect to have the greatest temperature range throughout the year? A would have greater temperature range because it is inland. 7. Location A is in a desert. What factors could account for the low precipitation? Mountains influence the airflow over the land. Therefore the side opposing the desert is known as the windward side where moisture is being released. This cause for the other side, to be the leeward side where cooler, drier air are inclined. The leeward side is where we find most of the deserts. 8. What factors could cause the climate in location D to be cooler than B? They are both on the coastal side but D would be cooler than B because of the wind direction.
