two from Kohler to wins state title
ll County judge in tennis
vacancies

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has appointed two Kohler residents to ll two Sheboygan County Circuit Court judge vacancies that opened after retirements. Kent Homann was appointed to Branch 2 to ll the
vacancy created by the retirement of Timothy Van Akkeren in January, and Daniel Borowski was appointed
to Branch 5 to ll the vacancy created by James Bolgert, who plans to retire August 1, 2016. Homann and
Borowski were chosen from a pool of ten applicants. Both will serve until April 2017 when they will need to
run for re-election to the full six-year terms.

Kent Homann
Kent Homan has had a distinguished career as a public
defender and prosecutor, said
Governor Walker in a press release. His strong commitments
to public service, criminal justice,
and the rule of law will serve the
Sheboygan community and Circuit Court well.
Homann was raised in Kohler
and graduated from Kohler High
School in 1984. He received his
Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law
School and earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in Criminal Justice
from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He worked as a
public defender in Milwaukee and
Peshtigo from 1993 until 2009,
before becoming the Assistant
District Attorney for Marinette
County. In both roles, Homann
defended and prosecuted several
high prole homicide and drug

cases, including one homicide

case that resulted in life in prison,
with no chance of release.
Homann and his wife, Cathy,
recently purchased a home in the
Village. They have three children.
Homanns father, Robert, was
the Village of Kohler Utility Supervisor for many years.
My wife Cathy and I are so
excited to be coming home, said
Homann. I am so honored and

humbled to receive this appointment as a Sheboygan County

Circuit Court Judge. I look forward to putting my experience
and skills to work on behalf of the
people of Sheboygan County.
Marinette County Circuit Court
Judge James Morrison wrote in
support for Homann: . . . he
brings a wealth of experience;
rst as a public defender, where
he was respected and admired,
and now as an Assistant District
Attorney, where he is known and
respected as an eective, fair, and
sensible prosecutor.
Judge David G. Miron, who
also serves on the Marinette
County Circuit Court had similar high praises for Homann: I
know of his work both in the Public Defenders Oce and, more
recently, as an Assistant District
Attorney for Marinette County.

to the Sheboygan community and

the County bench.
Borowski and his wife, Doreen, have lived in Kohler for
almost ten years. They are the
proud parents of three children,
Elle (12) and Annalise (7) who
attend Kohler Public School and
Christopher (4) who will attend
Kohler next fall. Ten years ago,
we moved to Kohler from the
Milwaukee area for the opportunity to live and raise our children
in a faith based community with
strong family values and an excellent educational system said
Borowski. Kohler has delivered
in all respects we are proud to
call the Village our home.
Borowski holds a Juris Doctor from University of Wiscon-

sin-Madison Law School, and

earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Criminal Justice from
the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He brings more than
twenty-six years of litigation
experience to the bench. He previously worked in a large Milwaukee business rm, founded a
boutique rm where he represented local units of government in
complex labor and employment
matters, and served as in-house
counsel to a major Wisconsin
manufacturer.
I am honored and humbled
to be appointed as a Sheboygan
County Circuit Court judge by
Governor Walker, said Borowski. I thoroughly enjoyed my

Kohler sophomore Casey Johnson (son of Drs. Kevin Johnson

and Lesie Abitz) made school history on June 4th at Nielsen Tennis
Center in Madison by being the
rst Kohler High School tennis
player to win a WIAA Division 2
state tennis championship.
Johnson, who ended the regular
season with a 23-3 singles record,
began the championship weekend
with a BYE on Friday morning.
On Friday afternoon he faced
Madison Edgewood junior Cecil
Linguard (18-6), who had won his
previous match 6-0, 6-0. Johnson
dropped the rst set in a tiebreaker, rallied to take the second set
7-5, and rallied again to clinch
the match in a third set tiebreaker,
7-6(1).
Johnson then moved on to a
semi-nal match against top-seeded Anand Saluja (18-1) of Brookeld Academy, who Johnson had
lost a three set match to in the regular season. Once again, Johnson
faced an opponent who had won
his previous match with a perfect
score of 6-0, 6-0. Johnson eased
past Saluja for the semi-nal victory 6-2, 6-3.
In the title match, Johnson faced
Juan Perez (25-3) of Racines The
Prairie School. Perez had won his
semi-nal match 6-2, 6-1. Johnson
fell in the rst set 2-6, recovered to
grab the second set 6-3, and dominated the nal set 6-1 to take the
title.
Johnson was coached by John

Reinertsen, assisted by Kevin

Johnson and Rob Sasse.

successful 12-year run
The Kohler High School boys
tennis program has earned an
impressive 11 state medals in the
past 12 years. The run started under Coach Wendy Tauscheck (who
began coaching the boys in 2000)
in 2005 when the doubles team
of juniors Mike Garland and Dan
Knabel nished in sixth place.
In 2007, the doubles team of
senior Kyle Wuthrich and sophomore Michael Knabel had a strong
tournament before falling in the
third and nal set of the championship match. Sophomore Charlie
Reinertsen also medaled, nishing
sixth in singles.
In 2008, the doubles team of juniors Colin Johnson (Caseys older brother) and Michael Knabel
nished third, and Charlie Reinertsen brought home another sixth
place medal in singles.
In 2009, Kohler had more players medal than any other Division 2 school, and achieved the
strongest placing for the state
tournament in the history of the
Kohler High School tennis program. Two singles players made
the semi-nals, with sophomore
Aiden Koross ultimately nishing
second, and Charlie Reinertsen
placing fourth to earn a medal for
the third straight year. Meanwhile,

Homann, Continued from page 1

Judge Miron added, I can state,
unequivocally, that Mr. Homann
is a man of great integrity. At all
times he has acted with the utmost
professionalism. He is always pre-

pared, has excellent knowledge

of the law, and is patient and respectful. In short, he has the proper judicial temperament.

two plus decades in private practice. I had the opportunity to handle complex civil litigation matters, along the way representing
Wisconsin employers both big
and small, local units of government, and individuals who simply
needed a helping hand through
the litigation maze. I have briefed
complex matters on appeal to the
Court of Appeals and have prepared amicus briefs to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in some
of Wisconsins most high prole
cases.
But when the opportunity presented itself to serve the residents
of Sheboygan County, I knew I
had to put myself forward. Each
of us is called at various points in
our life to step forward in service
to the greater good. I am honored
to have earned the trust of Governor Walker and I plan on working
diligently every day to earn the
trust of my fellow Sheboygan
County ocials and employees,
the Sheboygan County Bar, and

Sheboygan County law enforcement. Most importantly, I will

work tirelessly to earn the trust of
Sheboygan Countys residents. I
cannot wait to begin the work.
Ozaukee County Circuit Court
Judge Joseph Voiland praised the
appointment of Borowski: The
business experience, courtroom
experience, life experience and
commitment to the rule of law that
Dan Borowski carries will be a
great benet to the people of Sheboygan County and the state of
Wisconsin, says Judge Voiland.
Attorney Jacob Curtis stated,
Daniel Borowskis career as a
litigator is exactly the type of diversity and deep breadth of experience that make him the type
of attorney Wisconsinites need to
step forward and oer themselves
in service to the law. Mr. Curtis
went on to provide, Mr. Borowski has been a driven litigator that
maintains a laser-like focus on
what the law is, not what the law
should be.

Tennis,

Colin Johnson and Michael Knabel knocked o top-seeded University School of Milwaukee en
route to a fth-place nish in doubles.
Coach Tauschek took players
to state in 2010 and 2011, but
was unable to bring home medals
those two years. That changed in
2012 when the doubles team of
Kyle Struck and Tim Valicenti
took sixth. In 2013, top seeded Tyler Lewis brought home a second
place medal after going undefeated in the regular season. In 2015,
with the team now being coached
by John Reinertsen, Casey Johnson earned a third place medal as
a freshman.
