3: What makes up my grade?

Grade scale:
100-90%=A 89-80%=B
79-70%=C
69-0%=F
80% Final Grade: Year long grade
15% Assessments During Learning (i.e. guided, independent, or group practice
(Classwork and Homework))
35% Assessments for Learning (Projects and Quizzes), term and research
papers
50% Assessment of Learning: (Tests, Final Exams, Culminating Exams, Final
Drafts, Performances
20% Final Grade: Milestones EOC

4. What materials do I need?

Journal with non-tear out pages

Section of a binder (for now)
Loose leaf paper
Pens
Pencils
Highlighters
Four other novels you will know 4 weeks in advance
Students are expected to read outside of class, and annotate as they read.
This is best accomplished by purchasing your own texts. Amazon has
most things used for a penny and Gottwalls usually will do less than $5.

5. What electronic materials do I need?

A Gmail account is highly recommended for this course. It should have the
students first and last name.

Do not ask me if you can use something that is not your first and last name. The answer is no. If
you are prone to forgetting your password, make it your birthday and lunch number or some
other school related thing. If you choose something different, I cant help you.

6. Whats the work like?

Short answer: Notes, read, annotate, write, revise, write, talk.
You will need to read independently in class and outside of class. Whole group
reading almost never happens.
Multiple choice test and quizzes are rare. Most of the tests and quizzes will be
a written response or require some kind of problem solving answer to a riddle.
Discussion is a great way to improve your grade, but I dont really care about
basic comprehension. I care about interpretation. If you havent read,
annotated, and THOUGHT about the reading.youre toast.

7. When/How can I get help?

Make sure you COMPLETE a TRF (Tutorial Request Form) first (on the class website).
Tutoring by appointment. Figure out your ride before hand.
I will dismiss you if you:
Dont have a TRF
Dont bring materials or specific questions (because I just dont get it does
nothing for us)
If you decide to bring strays into my room that reflect poorly on you
Staying does not equal
Make up work or extra credit
Me teaching you the entire lesson again because you were distracted
If you stand me up, you WILL hear about it.
And no, you cant just hang out here until your ride shows up.

8. Can I get extensions ?

Turn your work in on time.

Yes, even if you arent here. Get it to me early.
No excuse on file in IC=No extension Extensions on assignments
No excuse on file in IC =Keep it. Late work is not accepted.
Even with an excused absence on the due date, long-term assignments
(assignments taking over five days) are penalized when not turned in on time.

9. Can I get a retake?

No. Probably not.

10. What do I do if I miss school

sometimes?

Bring an excuse to the office. You have 3 days.

Regardless of the reason you missed, go to khdzamlit.weebly.com and print
whatever it is you need. You may then come ask me about specifics.

Media center has a printer. Go before school, after school, during lunch.

Until you turn it in, its a M. Which Means missing which means ZERO.
Sick and have an excused logged into IC = Five business days to turn it in
Always speak to me about turning in late work before you start.

11. I miss a lot of school, what should I

know?
You can only miss 10 days from August to May. Day 11 you will have failed the course.
I am under no obligation to take your late work if you do not have an excuse logged
in IC.

If I do take it, its going to cost you. -10 points everyday, and yes, that includes weekends.
Example: Due Friday and you turn it in Monday? Highest you can get is a 60.
No matter what, it is impossible to get an A on a late assignment.

Always speak to me about turning in late work before you start.

Any late assignment will be marked late in the grade book. So we call all spot
patterns

Directions: Here there will be directions in black that you have the directions for your
assignment in black. You should always write these down for several reasons. What if
you are missing for several days and need to complete this assignment at home, how
will you know what to do? What if your friend is missing yesterday, and s/he needs the
assignment? What if you make a mistake and I tell you to look at the directions? You
get the idea. I will try to keep the directions WAAAY SHORTER THAN THIS.
You addressing the assignment: Here is where I will be reading your work. Whatever
you think is going to get you the best mark should go here. If you make a istake
mistake just strike through it once and keep going. It might have been right, but you
might not trust yourself. Also yes you can write on the back of the paper--so long as
your pen doesnt bleed through. Also, I dont care about pencil or pen color as long as
I can read it.
