DURING THIS PROJECT, INSPIRED YOU TO WORK HARD?

Mary Williams, my Grandmother, has worked as Associate Dean of Nursing at BYU for
30-some-odd-years. Every family gathering, she would ask, What are you studying in
Statistics? followed by How are you doing in Statistics? This Summer Semester has required
hard work; it was Grandmas constant reminders that helped me through it, Statistics is so
important in the medical field, you need to take it very seriously, every lesson will be useful in
your future education, as a Nurse Anesthetist, and in life!

WHAT

HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM THIS PROJECT?

Before this project I would have concluded According to our sample experiment a pack
of Original skittles will have about 60 candies and most of them will be yellow. Now, I
understand what Confidence Intervals are, and how to apply them. Today I conclude, With 95%
confidence we can say there will be 58.9684 to 61.2444 pieces in a 2.17oz pack of Original
Skittles, and with 99% confidence we can say 10.21% to 31.87% will be yellow.
WHEN

WILL THE MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICAL SKILLS THAT YOU APPLIED IN

THIS PROJECT IMPACT OTHER CLASSES YOU WILL TAKE IN YOUR SCHOOL
CAREER?

This project has taught me how to collect data from the appropriate sample, ask the
correct questions, apply equations, and conclude confident results. I believe the form of this
test/experiment will be conducted in many of my laboratory classes, both science and medicine.

WHERE

DID YOU STRUGGLE DURING THIS PROJECT?

Several factors came up in my life, pulling away some the attention I am normally able to
give to my education. Which caused me to struggle through the later chapters, which was why I

was absent for Term Project 4. Confidence Intervals appeared to be a big knot, though with
patience and hard continuous effort I was able to catch up and unravel it.

WHY

HAS THIS PROJECT CHANGED THE WAY YOU THINK ABOUT REALWORLD STATISTICS APPLICATIONS ?

Statistics has taught me how to win arguments and bets with my future husband. Deciding
which vehicle to purchase. Picking the lucky number in the Casino. March Madness house
bets. No longer will I place my bets off intuition, now it will be with confidence. Professor
Maw, the day I win, I will email you.

HOW

HAS THE PROJECT HELPED TO DEVELOP YOUR PROBLEM

SOLVING SKILLS ?

Completing this project helped with my overall understanding of how chapter 1 applies to
chapter 10. Instead of looking at just a branch we viewed the tree. The ability to see the tree has
shown me where and when to ask the questions and use the skills we have learned this semester.
Previous Math classes I learned to recognize the format which is how I knew to apply a
certain equation. The majority of the problems I have been faced with this semester have the
same format, I quickly learned I couldnt get by based of recognition. A stack of flashcards
detailing the equations, the equations names, when to use them, and the TI-84 functions, helped
me learn. This project has, bottom line, improved my comprehension skills immensely.
