In performing our group project, we had to take the help and
guideline of some respected person, who reserve our greatest gratitude.
This group project would not have been possible without the support of
many people. The completion of this project gives us much pleasure.
Firstly, we would like to show our gratitude to Mr. Mark, Critical
Thinking subject lecturer of Dasein Academy of Art for giving us a good
guideline for this project. Besides that, we would like to send our gratitude
to those who help us in our survey. Many people, especially our
classmates, have made valuable comment suggestions on this project
which gave us an inspiration to improve it.
Lastly, we would like to express our sincere thankfulness to all the
people who help us directly and indirectly in our project although their
name is not mentioned.

Introduction
Nowadays, animal rights has been a very hot topic that discussed by
the society people. One of the discussed topics about the animal rights
should have included pets rights. People always discuss or even argue
about we should buy or adopt a pet to solve the problems about pets but
there is never an end for it. So, in this project, our group is going to find
out the conclusion for this issue: Should We Buy or Adopt Pet?
As the people who are involved in the argument about this issue
always neglect some main point or reason that is very important for
finding out the conclusion, so we decided to bring out all the main point in
this project.
Our group has done some second-hand research from U.S.s website
and also firsthand research in the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur
for this project. We started our project in July,2016 and completed it in
August,2016.

Definition of Pet
1. A domestic or tamed
animal or bird kept for
companionship
or

with care and affection.

Details
A pet or companion animal is an animal kept primarily for a person's
company or protection, as opposed to working animals, sport animals,
livestock, and laboratory animals, which are kept primarily for
performance, agricultural value, or research. The most popular pets are
noted for their attractive appearances and their loyal or playful
personalities.
Pets commonly provide their owners physical and emotional
benefits. Walking a dog can supply both the human and pet with exercise,
fresh air, and social interaction. Pets can give companionship to elderly
adults who do not have adequate social interaction with other people, as
well as other people that are living alone. There is a medically approved
class of therapy animals, mostly dogs or cats, which are brought to visit
confined humans. Pet therapy utilizes trained animals and handlers to
achieve specific physical, social, cognitive, and emotional goals with
patients.

History of Pets
Prehistoric communities
In prehistoric times, the relationship between primitive man and
animals was that of hunter and prey. People viewed animals primarily as a
source of food and skins for clothing.
The first animal to make the transition from the wild to the
domesticated state was the wolf, the common ancestor of all modern-day
dogs. This occurred at least 12,00014,000 years ago when people
discovered that young wolf cubs that remained subordinate to humans as
adults could be trained.
From
the
earliest
days
of
domestication, dogs would have had practical
uses. They were kept because they could
perform tasks such as hunting, guarding, and
herding. Although domesticated dogs were
probably treated with respect in primitive
societies, there is evidence that at least some
were also considered companions as early as
12,000 years ago. The finding of a Paleolithic
tomb in Northern Israel, in which a human was buried with a dog or wolf
puppy, illustrates this point. The dead person's hand had been arranged
so that it rested on the animal's shoulder, as if to emphasize a deep bond
of affection during life.
Ancient civilizations
In some ancient civilizations, dogs may also have had cultural
significance, usually in regard to death practices. In some cases, the
deceased were deliberately put out for dogs to consume, as it was
thought necessary for the dead person's soul to pass through a dog to
reach the afterlife. These early associations between dogs and death
gradually evolved into beliefs that dogs could ward off or prevent death. In
ancient Greece, dogs were kept as co-therapists in healing temples for
their perceived ability to cure illness. This can be seen as the precursor of

Pet keeping wasn't generally accepted in Europe until the end of the
17th century, and it wasn't common among the middle classes until the
late 18th century. Pet keeping in its present form is probably a 19th
century Victorian invention. At this time, it was perceived as a link with
the natural world, which itself was no longer seen as threatening. It also
allowed a visible demonstration of man's domination over nature.
Britain had been a center for dog breeding
since Roman times, and one of the first
formal competitive dog shows was held in
Newcastle in 1859 for the Pointer and Setter
breeds. Still, little was known about the
inheritance of various characteristics until
Charles Darwin published The Origin of the
Species in 1859. Since that time, dog
breeding has become more formalized with
the establishment of strict breed standards.
Definition
Getting a pet from a breeder or pet store.
Getting a pet from a shelter or rescue.
Further Information
Adopting
Adopting is done from a non-profit animal shelter, or
charity run pet rescue group (this can be from kill, or
non-kill shelters). Money generally changes hands, and
contracts are always involved (they may or may not be
involved with sales). The pets are adopted out at a
relatively low cost, reflecting the fact that the animal
shelter is non-profit. Adopters are screened (as they are
from reputable breeders too), and go through a process
of qualifying. Adoption contracts generally require the
pet to be returned to the shelter if the adoptive owner
cannot keep it.

get a pet of any range.
7) Most people that participated in our survey agree that adopt is the best
way to save
life.
8) Most of the male that didnt adopt a pet before know little about the pet
stores facts.
9) Averagely female know more about the pet stores facts.

Based on the point we have listed above, the conclusion for the
issue Should We Buy or Adopt Pet? is we should adopt a pet. Even
though nowadays in Malaysia, buy is still a main way to get a pet, but
we can realize that our citizens already think more on adopt rather than
buy. The reason of them to buy a pet could maybe be the pet shelters or
rescues are hardly be found in our country. But we strongly believe that in
the future, adopt will be the main way for our citizens to get a pet.
