RESRVOIR MAINTENANCE CLEANING PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE:
1
Before the commencement of any cleaning work, adequate notice should be given to
consumers, related personnel/authorities and adequate signboards shall be displayed to indicate
that the reservoir/s is/are undergoing cleaning works.
Make sure that all electrical connections are power off (level sensors) within the reservoir before
commencing the cleaning works.
Used the remaining water from the reservoir to around 150 to 200 mm above the bottom of the
tank before isolating the outlet pipes or shutting off. Close the other reservoirs first to attain this
condition. Make sure that the reservoir inlet is close/shut off. Put the other reservoirs online once
this state is attained.
Clean the external of the reservoir and manhole cover before opening it. Make sure proper
ventilation and illumination are provided before entering the reservoir. Keep the manhole open
during the entire cleaning process. If the source of illumination and ventilation requires power,
make sure it is electrically safe to avoid electrocution.
All personnel involved in the cleaning work must be free from water-borne diseases like fungi,
protozoa and bacteria etc. All personnel involved in the cleaning work shall wash, clean
and disinfect themselves thoroughly before entering the reservoir.
When the reservoir is ready for cleaning, wash the internal walls first using clean and disinfected
cotton rugs or dish foam (never use hard brushes, sharp and pointed objects or anything that
could harm the liner). Use ladder/s with safety cushion (to avoid punctures/cuts on the liner) in
reaching high areas. Never use chemicals in cleaning the reservoir unless otherwise safely
recommended by authorities.
Use the remaining water from the reservoir in cleaning the walls. Use water hose in rinsing the
wall liners after washing but make sure it not highly pressurize to avoid damaging the liner.
After cleaning the walls, start draining the remaining water through the drain pipe until
remaining water is 50mm high from bottom.
10 Use the remaining water to push the sediments going to the drain outlet using foam or cotton
rugs until all areas are clean. Use water hose to flush and rinse the entire inner side of reservoir
11 Make sure that no tools, equipment and personnel are left inside the reservoir before putting it
on line. Make sure that all level sensors all on line and manhole cover are close and secure, inlet
and outlet valves are open, drain valve close before filling the reservoir.
12 Checks leaks once reservoir is full which could be caused during cleaning and do as necessary.
Note:
All given instruction may be change as necessary or depends on actual condition of Water
Treatment Plant management.
