Part 1 Overhead and Order Wire Commissioning
Task 1 Supervisory Channel Commissioning
The typical output optical power of SC1 (SC2/TC1/TC2) is (-3~-6) dBm with the
receiving sensitivity of -48dBm. The insertion loss between TM interface and IN
interface on the FIU board is less than 1.2dB; the insertion loss between the RM
and OUT is less than 0.8dB. With the help of an optical power meter, measure the
attenuation of the supervisory signal after it passes the board and line.
System Commissioning
Each OAU/OBU input power should be 0.5dB to 1.0dB higher than the
value calculated by the formula.

At DWDM side
For OTM, add a fixed attenuator of 5dB between D40 and the receiving optical
amplifier; For LWF or LWC of ORP, add no fixed attenuator between D40 and the
receiving OTU. If the receiving optical interface is LWC of ORA, add a fixed
attenuator of 10dB between D32 and OTU.
For OADM, add a fixed attenuator of 5dB between the cascaded MR2s at the
boundary of east and west. For LWF or LWC of ORP, add no fixed attenuator
between MR2 and OTU. If the receiving optical interface is LWC of ORA, add a
fixed attenuator of 10dB between MR2 and OUT.
At the customer side, the fixed attenuator is added at the receiving optical
interface of the sending OTU, normally 5dB for LWF, 10dB for ORP as LWC and
15dB for ORA as LWC. For the unusual case of abutting LWC customer side, add
5dB for ORP and 10dB for ORA.

Operation instruction
Find the channel with the maximum and minimum optical power (or
signal-to-noise ratio) in the spectrogram measured, then adjust the
VOA of the corresponding V40 channel to make the optical power (or
signal-to-noise ratio) close to the average value;
Repeat Step 4 until the biggest difference of the optical power (or
signal-to-noise ratio) in all the channels is within 4dB (or 2dB);
When the above steps are done, usually the total input and output
optical power of respective amplifier stages will not change obviously
and the commissioning is completed.
The board position relation of the VOA and optical amplification board is
one-to-one corresponding from left to right.
