Today, I was the 5 am room service supervisor relief. Zach was the actual
supervisor but I was in charge and he was just making sure I was doing everything
right. We took the temperatures in the morning and set up the line for breakfast.
Once the line started, we got the trays together and he taught me how to send
them to the right PNA on the right cart. I ran into a few staff problems. Two people
called in sick so I had to call other employees to come in and fill their spot. I decided
to take a person off the line and let them tray pass instead to help out the PNAs. No
one came in for the people who called in so we were short staffed but made it work
by moving employees around. Also, a PNA who has been out for a few weeks due to
surgery forget her password for her tablet that is essential for tray passing. She was
really worried and stressed about it so I called the help desk and had the password
reset. Tonight they are short as well, but they have an on-call person so they will be
called in to work. At lunch time, Zach was in the office doing something so he left
me in charge of the line. It went very smoothly and I got through the rush with no
problems. Although we were short staffed, we made it work by moving people
around and everyone helping out.

Today I was once again with the 5 am room service supervisor. I did pretty
much the same thing as yesterday. I worked on the line and was in charge of the
PNAs and tray passers. I had a PNA call in sick. I had to look over the schedule and
find a replacement. I found a tray passer who is not a PNA but knows how to pass
trays and take insulin. It was decided that the PNA on a different floor would do the
PNA duties of the tray passer and this helped cover all of the responsibilities of the
PNA who called in sick. I was also in charge of putting together the meals for Meals
on Wheels. I had to make sure all of customers were on the list and then deliver the
food to the drivers who will take the meals to the houses. I also worked on the line
for the lunch time rush. Tomorrow is my theme meal for the caf so I had to help
prepare some of the ingredients.

Today was my theme day in the caf. My theme was vegetarian and I had a
few new options for lunch and dinner. Overall, I think it went very smoothly and I
enjoyed all of the new vegetarian recipes. I was also the staff supervisor for the
caf. Mark worked with me all day and was a great help to make my theme meal
run smoothly. I demonstrated assertiveness while respecting individual differences
during my day with an employee who ran the salad bar. The salad I created for the
vegetarian day was a kale salad with an avocado dressing. The employee, who put
the salad together, put the dressing directly on the salad. I had asked her to please
put the dressing on the side for the next pan of salad that was to go on the line. She
was not happy about this because she would have to change all of the pans she

already had the salad in. I was very respectful and asked her nicely to change it and
she eventually did. Overall, I enjoyed working with Mark in the caf as the caf
supervisor.

Today I am with the late room service supervisor, Zach. I was on the line for
the beginning of my shift. I had a meeting with Rachel and Kris to discuss the
changes to the patient menus. I have made lots of changes so that the non-select
regular menu meets the DRIs of the patients. I had another in-service with some of
the PNAs to discuss tray passing and how important the patient wrist band is. After,
I was with Zach on the line and making sure dinner was running smoothly. I
demonstrated assertiveness with respecting individual differences during my day as
late room service supervisor by making sure all the tray passers were doing their
jobs. I was in the caf helping a cashier and I saw a tray passer in the caf when he
should have been in the kitchen or on the floor. I nicely and calmly told him to
please go downstairs and get the carts to pass the trays. I told Zach about this issue
and we both talked to the employee and made him understand he cannot be in the
caf taking breaks whenever he wants. I had to take temperatures at dinner time,
and it turns out one of the holding coolers had not been on the entire day. This was
an issue because we were serving food to the patients from this cooler. We had to
throw away all the food and re-temp the area and new food once the cooler was
properly turned on. At the end of the night, Zach and I counted down the drawers of
the caf and the money that was collected for the patient guest meals.

This morning, I worked on the changes to the menu that was made by Kris
and Rachel. Then I was on the line for breakfast. There was an issue with an
employee last night so I had to meet with Rachel, Kris, and Zach about what
happened. I also looked up some pies and cakes for Kris to see how they are stored.
Kris wants to use one of the bakery coolers for salads and healthier options so I had
to see which pies and cakes need to be refrigerated or frozen to be stored. I also
worked on entering Wernle menu numbers for their reimbursement. I made a how to
guide for how to do this when Rachel leaves for her baby adaption. I used this guide
to make sure that it was correct and it made sense. For the rest of my day, I made
changes to the non-select menus and the nutrient aspect. I am nowhere near done
and will continue with this project in clinical.
