A Different Reflection

My initial proposal for the semester long project was to discuss three main topics
that related to the concept of equity over equality. These topics were, racial
discrimination in primarily white hometowns, women inequality to men in the working
industry, and why social status defines success. We submitted our proposal and it was
declined for incorrect format, so we changed. My partner and I were fed up with trying to
combine these three topics in such a short amount of time, therefore we created a
completely different idea. We then changed our project to one simple topic of men to
women inequality in the working industry from the 1700s to now. My partner was going
to discuss hardships of men and I was going to introduce the point of view of women,
then we would offer solutions for boths sides, so that the two could come together and
create equality. We found that it was harder to argue the males side, because males
have primarily always been superior to females in the working industry; men are
supposed to be considered the breadwinners, which means they acquire the majority
of the family income. My partner will discuss historical events that dated back years ago
up until now, while I introduce current factors that obtain to sports entertainment industry
that show mistreatment of women. We saw that this would be an easier way to go about

our semester long project and the concept was more relatable to major epidemics in
todays society.
When we began our project, I mostly used the internet for research, but when
doing writing prompt nine we had to use another persons point of view on our topic; it
really opened my eyes and mind. Being able to talk with a like minded individual about
something you truly care about and advocate for really made me more passionate about
my work and I would have to say that was my favorite way to research. I believe my
ideals through my research have been heightened because I have obtained more
factual information about my topic instead of just opinions. I am now able to back my
opinion up because I am more more knowledgeable about the task at hand. I was most
surprised during my research by the fact that history is repeating itself. For some time in
history it seemed like the gender gap was getting closer and closer to closing, but then
things started to fall apart and women were once again considered inferior. Another
thing that surprised me was the gender race gap; women struggle in general, but black
women struggle tremendously because of not only their gender, but their race as well.
After doing this project I feel more enlightened. I feel like I have been taught and
now I can go out and make a difference. This project has made me think about all
aspects of life and helped me realize how I will soon have to struggle as well. As a
young, black woman wthere will be many obstacles in the way on my path to success. I
know that I have overcome stereotypes to achieve the things I want in life, so at the end
of the day I know I let nothing, especially a man, hold me back from my goals.
