(Please ask your school office if unsure.
This number is required for IMP
Registration.)

WHY LEARN A
MUSICAL INSTRUMENT?
Instrumental music makes an
important contribution to a
balanced education by providing
students with authentic learning
experiences that engage their
minds, hearts and bodies.

Together, in an interconnected and

seamless relationship with classroom music
activities, it promotes the acquisition and
development of many skills including:
hand/eye coordination, fine and gross
motor skills, aural and visual discrimination,
self-confidence, concentration, memory,
co-operation and alertness as an individual
in a small group or ensemble.
It develops learners capacity for creative
thought and action, feelings and
sensibilities, exploration of values and
an understanding of cultural change and
differences. As an integrated part of the
curriculum, instrumental music assists the
development of literacy and numeracy skills
and provides opportunities for purposeful
interaction with others.
