The Residence Life unit, within the Division of Finance, is dedicated to providing students with
high-quality support in all aspects of student life. Residence Life offers comprehensive
physical and virtual support environments and mechanisms to provide proactive, tailored
support programs to all students. The unit assists students through the provision of
accommodation, a comprehensive residential life support network including pastoral care and
welfare services, community/capacity building, food and beverage services, entertainment
and events support services, retail and merchandising services, graduation, social and
recreational programs.
This appointment offers outstanding opportunities to contribute to the student experience for
those in residence. To be successful in the role, you must have an interest in the academic
progress of other students, show the ability to lead peers and engage students in a range of
study related activities, be organised and reliable, and be able to contribute as a member of a
team.

Targeted Questions:
1. Provide an example of a time when as a student, you successfully navigated a
challenge. Outline the steps taken, support accessed and how this led to
improvement and success.
2. This position requires an ability to lead and support students, and be a role model for
academic engagement. Demonstrate your experience in these areas and the key
skills required.
All applicants will be notified via email regarding the success of their application. Applicants
will be shortlisted, and interviews conducted between 15 23 September, either in-person or
by phone.
Residential Tutors will be required to attend 3 days of training and induction in the week
commencing Monday 31 October, concluding by Saturday 5 November (exact timing
depending on campus). Training is a compulsory requirement of the position. Successful
applicants will be paid for face-to-face activities during this training period. Training will be held
on campus, and timing allows Residential Tutors continuing access to their accommodation
and standard meal packages at no additional cost.

This position reports to:

Position Overview
The role of the Residence Life Team is to promote the development of a residents
academic, cultural and social life within Residences as a living and learning community,
which is integral to the students experience and success at Charles Sturt University. In this
context the purpose of the Residential Tutor (RT) is to support and facilitate the academic
progress of students in residence.
The position liaises with student residents, Residential Advisors and Head Residents, staff of
the Residence Life Team, and other relevant Charles Sturt University staff as appropriate.
Principal Responsibilities
Organise, lead and record outcomes of group study sessions, providing academic
support and advice to students in your residence; maintain a physical presence; be
approachable and accessible in your residence.
Immediately inform the Residential Management Team of any situation that may
compromise the safety or welfare of an individual or groups of residents, particularly
those residents that may be at risk.
