ABSTRACT
A Stroboscope is an instrument for studying
periodic motion or determining speeds of rotation by
shining a bright light at intervals so that a moving or
rotating object appears stationary. It consists of either
a rotating disk with slots or holes or a lamp such as a
flashtube which produces brief repetitive flashes of
light. Usually the rate of the stroboscope is adjustable
to different frequencies. Thus stroboscopes are also
used to measure frequency.
The frequency of the flash is adjusted so that it is an
equal to, or a unit fraction of the object's cyclic speed,
at which point the object is seen to be either stationary
or moving slowly backward or forward, depending on
the flash frequency. Neon lamps or light emitting
diodes are commonly used for low-intensity strobe
applications. Xenon flash lamps are used for mediumand high-intensity strobe applications.
The electronic strobe light stroboscope was
invented in 1931, by Harold Eugene Edgerton

RKING
The stroboscopic effect relies on temporally aliasing, or
aligning, the illumination of a light with the periodic
motion of an object. Imagine an object moving
cyclically as a wave; the strobe must match the crests
and troughs of the wave such that it hits the same part
of the wave during every repetition.

Stroboscopes, or "strobe lights," as they are

colloquially known, see use in nightclubs. They achieve
a visually disorienting effect by illuminating dancers in
a non-temporally aliased manner. Dancers appear to
move in a jerky motion because the strobe lights do
not illuminate the periods in between their motions. If
the lights were temporally aliased, repeatedly
illuminating dancers at the same point in their dance,
the club goers would appear still.
Stroboscopes work because of the way humans
perceive motion. Human eyes do not capture full
motion but, rather, stitch together a series of
instances, typically around 24 per second, to create the
illusion of motion. Stroboscopes can create short bursts
of light such that an object in motion appears static.

FEATURES

It is a non-contact type system.

It has high accuracy compared to
that of Tachometer.
It does not need any shaft
modification.

FUTURE SCOPE

As we know that the main feature

of STROBOSCOPE is that it is a noncontact type of tachometer.
In future the application range of
stroboscope will be wide, it will be
used for various purposes.
In future X-ray can also be joined
with it so that it is simpler to know
where the fault or cracks in the
machines.
