Course Description:
Geometry is the second in the sequence of High School mathematics courses designed
to ensure that students are college and work ready. It focuses on analyzing and understanding
shapes at a deeper content level. We will be building on previous knowledge acquired in Middle
School to deduce logical understanding of the world around us. We encourage all students to
strive for independent understanding. Students should ask and understand why something is
true, and not just accept it as truth.

Tutoring
This year we will have a tutoring available to students 24/7. Students will have
the ability to ask for help anytime using the following website and login
information

tutor.com/southcobb
Password: StudentId

Username: firstname.lastname

Tutoring will be available after school on Thursdays, 3:40pm - 4:40pm. This

time can be used for remediation or to retake assessments. For tutoring during
other times an appointment must be made. Students will have the opportunity
to redo quizzes and tests before the next test. It is in the students best interest
to take advantage of these opportunities to further comprehension. Do not wait
until the end of the semester to seek assistance. If a student feels that he/she
isnt getting enough help from the web resource please be sure they request to
be tutored by the teacher. All requests will be heard and discussed. The privilege
of tutoring with the teacher will not be given if the students are not
participating/attending class.

Remediation of Grades- Students are graded by standards based

grading. This means they are not graded pertest but in their understanding of
many subtopics within a test. When a student shows competency in a specific
subtopic their previous grade will be replaced. Any graded work that a student
does can be replaced if they show on a quiz/ test that they now understand the
subtopic.
CELL PHONE POLICY Unless we are doing a classroom activity on a cell
phone, all cell phones should be out of site and not in use during class. If a cell
phone is out then an individual or whole class reminder about cell phones will be
stated. If the student refuses to put away their cell phone at that time, then the
cell phone will be collected. All cell phones will be returned by the end of class
unless this is a continually repeated offense, where the teacher holds the right
to collect the cell phone and give it to an administrator. If this happens, the
parent will be notified and required to come pick it up at the front office.

Absences
If you are absent from school for ANY reason, it is THE STUDENTS
RESPONSIBILITY to get any materials/notes/HW that was missed on the absent

day. Any missed quizzes or tests will be assigned a grade of zero until the
assignment is completed in tutoring. Daily assignments will be posted to the
course website www.scgeometry.weebly.com.

Tardy Policy
It is important that students come to class on time so that they can receive all
information and optimize class time. If a student does not have both feet in the
door before the end of the ring the student will be marked tardy in the
gradebook. There is to be no debate at the time of tardiness. If you feel that I
have unjustly marked you tardy, please come speak to me at the end of class.

Bathroom Passes
The students are given 6 minutes to go from class to class and are expected to
use the restroom during that time. The ONLY time a student should be using
the restroom during class is if it is an emergency no exceptions. Bathroom
passes will not be issued during the first 15 minutes and last 15 minutes of class
no exceptions. Students that take more than 10 minutes to go to the
bathroom will be written up for skipping; students are still responsible
for material covered in their absence. (Permission to go must be granted
and will not be granted while I am presenting instruction- please dont ask)

Updates and Communication

All class communication and updates will be provided through the following
avenues:
Remind reminders and/or updates will periodically be sent using
Remind.

Grades updated at least once a week so all parties are aware of
students current standing in the class. They are available to view on
ParentVue
It is the students responsibility to use these resources to further their
potential success in the course.
