American English (AE) E-Teacher Scholarship Program


The AE E-Teacher Scholarship Program is run out of The Regional English Language Office or RELO. It is a
program funded by the United States Government that offers foreign English teaching professionals the
opportunity to take university-level professional development courses through various university partners in the
USA.
All AE E-Teacher courses use the latest in instructional technology to provide participants with an interactive
distance-learning experience, and are designed to familiarize participating teachers with current methods and
issues in the field of English as a Foreign Language.
E-Teacher Courses:
Introduce and explore current methodological concepts and issues in the English as a Foreign Language
field
Provide an innovative distance-learning experience that uses the latest technology
Connect participants with U.S. English language teaching experts and creates a professional network of
international colleagues

Eligibility: Candidates should be highly motivated teachers, teacher trainers, or ministry officials who are both
dedicated to their own professional development and willing to share their knowledge with colleagues.
Qualified candidates should:
Have the ability to complete academic work at a U.S. university level (an advanced level of reading
and writing in English, roughly equivalent to a minimum TOEFL score of 525/iBT 70)
Have an understanding of English technical terms relating to computers and the Internet
Have regular access (4-5 times/week) to a reliable, up-to-date computer with high-speed internet
connectivity
Have basic technology skills related to email, internet searches and downloads/uploads,
logins/passwords, and e-file use (e.g., pdf, MS Word, Excel). Practical Applications in Listening and
Speaking Skills participants require access to real-time tools such as Skype
Have the ability to type in English well enough to perform online tasks in real-time and submit written
assignments in a timely manner
Have at least 8-10 hours per week to devote to the coursework

American English (AE) Teaching Webinars


The American English Webinar program is a series of seminars on different topics related to teaching English as
a foreign language. The current series is Number 3 and consists of six 1 hour seminars. Upon completion and
engagement of all six seminars and a discussion session, participants will be presented with a certificate
notating their achievement.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please talk with your friendly Peace Corps Volunteer as they will
be the ones to present the videos, run a discussion session, and present you with the certificates from the
American Embassy.

Voice of America has a number of great English resources for use in the classroom. They have videos that can
be downloaded and shown offline, listening quizzes, and worksheets that can be used in the classroom. They
also offer vocabulary lists and great strategies for learning and teaching English.
There is a wonderful videos sections that has short videos teaching idioms (English in a Minute), grammar
(Everyday Grammar TV), vocabulary (New Words), phrases from movies (English @ the Movies) that can

They also have current news stories that have been adapted for English language learners and are divided up by

While there are slight variations between American English and British English, the general rules of the
language remain constant. However, one must be careful about confusing students with the small differences.
This website has a number of activities for teachers to use in the classroom that can be sorted through by skill,
learner level, and time available.

This is a great resource to find listening clips of authentic situations. Use it to hone students ears to the many
people that speak English around the world. In todays world, its just as likely that youll be speaking English to
someone who is not a native speaker as you will with a native speaker!
