Theory of Personality Virtues

When we are talking about the personality virtues, we may ask: what kind
of person should I be? This is a gambling issue when comparing to other moral
values.
Personality Virtues formed in process of moral development which contains
individuals behavior. Basically we can categorize it into 3 main stages which are
childhood, adolescence and adults. During childhood, we are taught what is right and
wrong by obeying the orders from parents or elder people in order to avoid punishment
without concern more details. When we reach adolescence, moral levels become
internalized. We are clearer about the implications and follow it to appease people. The
final stage is adult, the morality is not based on self-interest but it takes into consideration
interest and welfare of everyone. As we grow up, we become mature and need to think
rational when making decision. Unlike childhood, they are not concern the consequences
before or after an action are being taken. Self-interest is the top priory when executing an
action.
Actually personality virtues and habits are sibling as what you do will reflect your
personals virtues. They are always related to each other. We need to acquire it through
the teaching-learning process. It enables us to behave and act in a certain way. Hence, we
are able to develop positive individual characteristics. If an honest person finds a wallet,
his virtue of honesty will motivate him and try to return back the wallet to the owner.
Good qualities are taught by our families and leaders which then make us successful in
our lives. Development of these qualities needs effort and time so there is no shortcut in
our lives. Stanza 14 of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost; yet knowing how way
leads on to way. Once he chooses to take that road, that road will lead to another fork and
he has to disregard the other choices. Once someone chooses to take the shortcut, they are
abnegates virtuous qualities as they have to pay the cost of taking the shortcut.
Apart from that, there are significant differences between skills and personality
virtues. How do you define success in your life? With personality virtue, it will lead you
to a bright way but skills only make us to become excellent; for instance, the jobless rate
is high in this society among the college graduate. They have skills but some of them may
lack of personality virtues where the company is seeking someone who have capability
and at the same time perform virtuous characteristics to avoid employee with bad
intention. This shows that we will fail without personality virtues. The coverage of skills
is restricted in a specific area while personality virtues involve in all aspect. Skills can be
achieved through practice and learning but personality virtue is hard to obtain. An expert
badminton player won in a national tournament and he teases his competitor who had
lost. This action shows that he has not perform the spirit of sport which mean he has
skills but not virtue.

There is a murder case happen in Sarawak lately, a teenager born in a rich family
intend to rape his friend. He fails to do so and kill her due to his anger. After that, he
voluntarily surrendered himself to police but he is free from punishment due to the lack
of evidence. The judge neglect his talent to sentence the teenager has not guilty without
further investigation.
Everyone performs moral values but problems still exist and never reach an end.
Crime rate, pollution, etc. are increasing. This indicates that weaknesses present in moral
values and hence, appropriate sanction measure should be taken to improve the
imperfection of moral values. Weaknesses of personality virtue occur since there is no
universal standard to practice these virtuous qualities. No one is from the same living
condition; some may from a broken family, happy family or an orphanage. Hard to
clearly state what is right and wrong. For example, people tell lies not necessary to cover
their evil doing; they may try to protect someone from harm.
In short, discovering true virtue is difficult. Depending on public observation is
not adequate and knowing a persons character. One should not judge the others by their
appearance. Practice itself determines how to figure out who is virtuous and with the
experience accumulated we may able to evaluate whether a person perform good
characteristics. On the other hand, practices help us to identify virtuous personality.
