What You Need to Know

About Benildes New Academic Calendar

Dear Parents,
In response to the ASEAN Integration, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde will transition
to a new academic calendar for SY 2015-2016.
In preparation for the switch, a 14-week Transition Term from 11 May to 17 August 2015
will replace the SY 2014-2015 Summer Term.
The Transition Term shall seamlessly segue into the SY 2015-2016. It is open to all regular
and irregular students, returnees, transferees and shiftees. It is a 14-week term which is not
counted towards the maximum residency period and students can take a full-load.
Under the new academic calendar, the 1st Term will be from 24 August to 2 December 2015;
2nd Term, 6 January to 19 April 2016; and 3rd Term, 25 April to 1 August 2016.
Approved by Benildes Office of the President and Chancellor, the calendar revisions
were proposed by Benildes Academic Council comprised of school deans and administrators
under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academics.

Transition Term SY 2014-2015

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Transition Term?
As the College transitions to the new academic calendar that is responsive
to the ASEAN Integration, the Transition Term was designed to seamlessly segue
into the SY 2015-2016.
Whereas the Summer Term is only for remedial classes, the Transition Term is open
to all regular and irregular students, returnees, transferees and shiftees.
The Transition Term is like a regular term, therefore students can carry a full course load.
As a rule, students expecting to graduate at the end of the Transition Term may carry
a maximum overload of six (6) units. Other programs with specific units declared
for the penultimate and ultimate terms are exempt from this rule.
2. What are the benefits of the Transition Term?
Students can take the Transition Term as an opportunity to retake failed courses
and thus allowing them to get back on track in time for SY 2015-2016.
Through the Transition Term, students may also advance their completion of the course,
and as a result, graduate earlier than scheduled.
3. When will the Transition Term start?
The Transition Term is from 11 May 2015 to 17 August 2015. It is a 14-week term
which will not be counted towards the maximum residency period (MRP).
4. Will tuition costs be the same as in a regular term?
The table of fees for SY 2014-2015 will apply. The Transition Term will even be financially
beneficial to students and their parents because the new fees shall not be reflected.
International Hospitality Management students who will opt to enroll will be charged
with amortization for the Vatel royalty fee. This payment will be counted towards
the full payment for the Vatel royalty fee.
The deadline of payment and fees (without surcharge) is on 16 May 2015.
This is a one-week extension from the usual deadline of payment without surcharge.
The surcharge for late payment starts on the 2nd week of classes.
Students on scholarships and/or tuition subsidies will have the same benefits.

Per policy, payment confirms enrollment. Deadlines for payment without surcharge
are indicated in the Enrollment Assessment Form (EAF). Students who do not confirm
enrollment within the prescribed period will be dropped from the enrollment list
and their ID cards will be invalidated.
ID cards of students who are not enrolled during the Transition Term
will also be invalidated. As a result, students who are not enrolled will have limited access
to the campus. However, they will retain their access to online enlistment and pre-enrollment
for the 1st Term, SY 2015-2016.
5. Will transferees be accepted during the Transition Term?
Yes, the College will accept transferees for the Transition Term.
6. What happens to shiftees and returnees?
Shifting policies and procedures will likewise apply to the Transition Term.
Approved shifting for the 3rd Term, SY 2014-2015 will be applicable to the Transition Term.
(i.e. Students accepted to the program they are shifting to may enroll accordingly.)
Returnees are encouraged to enroll for the Transition Term.
Enrollment for returnees is on 7-8 May 2015.
7. Will both major and minor subjects be offered during the Transition Term?
Yes, the Transition Term is very much like a regular term offering both major
and minor subjects.
8. What is the minimum and maximum number of units allowed to be taken
during the Transition Term?
Students may enroll the maximum number of units based on their flowchart.
For example, ID 114 will enroll courses listed in the 4th term of their flowcharts;
ID 113 will enroll courses listed in the 7th term of their flowcharts.
9. Will there also be an adjustment period for the Transition Term?
Is the process going to be the same as every term?
Yes, there will be an adjustment period for the Transition Term.
Since the Transition Term is like a regular term, the process is essentially
the same: online enlistment, adviser approval and pre-enrollment.
10. If students enlist this term, will their enlistment be valid for the next school year
even if they dont take the Transition Term? Or are they not required to enlist
if they wont enroll for the Transition Term?
Students who enlist for the Transition Term but decide not to enroll will have to enlist
anew for the 1st Term, SY 2015-2016.

Block students who enlist during the Transition Term are advised to pre-enroll online.
Students will still remain with their block so long as they are still on track.
The Office of the Registrar will have block students for the Transition Term.
However, failure in a course or underloading of courses during the Transition Term
will have an effect on the students blocking system for the 1st Term, SY 2015-2016.
12. Are students required to follow their flowchart if they take the Transition Term?
Yes, students who enroll during the Transition Term should follow their flowchart.
(See also answer to Q8.)

You may contact our Center for Lasallian Ministry directly for the specific schedule.
14. Can the 114 students enroll for the Transition Term?
Yes, students are encouraged to do so.

Yes, course offerings for the Transition Term will follow the program flowchart.
(i.e. All courses for the 1st, term SY 2015-2016 will be offered.)
17. If the Transition Term is required, will those who dont take it need to file LOA?
The Transition Term is optional, thus there is no need to file LOA.
The students maximum residency will not be affected either.
18. How will the tours work for Tourism students? Will tours still push through
even if there are not enough students ?
The tours will still be presented in accordance with their anchor courses.
The tours will still be governed by minimum subscription rate
of the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM).
