What is TED, TEDx and TEDxKL?

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading.


TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design.
Founded in 1984 in California as a four-day conference.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx.

TEDx is a programoflocal,self-organizedeventsthatbringpeopletogethertosharea
TED-like experience. TEDx, where x = independently organized event.

TEDxKL is a TEDx-licensed eventlocallyorganizedbyaorganisingteambasedinKuala


Lumpur, who also runs TEDxYouth@KL.
There are also other TEDx events in Malaysia, ie TEDxPetaling Street, TEDxWeldQuay
(Penang), and TEDx at universities like INTI, Sunway, UTP.
Aims to introduce some of the most fascinating thinkers and ideas to a world platform
TED Talks videos and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussions and
connections in small groups.
People involved with TEDxKL have a passion for contributing to communities, as well
as making conscious changes for the betterment for Malaysia.
TEDxKL believes in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the
world.

What time is it?


From 1-7pm
Registration starts at 11:00am because we are expecting large crowds so please come early

There are also exhibitions and interactive activities for all attendees to explore and discover.

Wah, whole day ah?! Why so long wan?


Well, there are a total of 12 presenters: 3 sessions, 2 breaks in between.

Light food and drinks will be provided during the breaks.


There are also mini exhibitions and breakout sessions.

How do I get there? Is there public transport to the venue?


There are two ways for you to commute to the venue:

to the venue.
You can also travel there by private transport or taxis. The keyword here is
carpool!

2. Drive yourself to the venue.


Parking spots in CCC are limited. However, there are parking lots available across the
road or at the Bukit Jalil Stadium.

practise your Rihanna moves)

Who are the Presenters?

Usman Riaz Percussive guitarist


A young Pakistani musician making a worldwide mark with his astonishing and
fun-to-listen-to technique.

Based in North America, Usman continues to be the youngest TED Senior Fellow and is a
current pupil of Berklee College of Music. Hes now collaborating with other musicians in
Pakistan and working on a new album of original music.

Alena Murang Borneo Art Forms Pioneer


She learnt the traditional art forms of the Kelabit, Kenyah and Penan peoplesincetheageof
six, including dancing, weaving, design, singing and playing music instruments.

She is one of the first and few women to play, perform and teach a traditional lute
instrument, the sape, and started Kelas Sape KL in 2015 with support from the Youth and
Sports Ministry.


Saidah Rastam Music composer, author, historian
She is a composer who has written musicfortheatre,filmdanceandTV,forgamelan,martial
artists, choral groups, Chineseoperasingers,orchestrasandelectronica.Shewasthemusical
director for the launch of the Petronas Twin Towers.

HerbookRosalieandOtherLoveSongswaspublishedbyKhazanahNasionalBerhadaspartof
a preservation project on Malayan music, recordings, manuscripts and oral history.

Malam Terang Bulanherrecentmusicalproject-featuringmusicalperformanceandnarration


on the history and stories behind Malayan music and the origins of Negaraku, the Malaysian
national anthem.

Anne Tham Group CEO and Founder of ACE EdVenture


She set off to change the learning paradigm for school students by incorporating methods
that engage many facets of learning into her curriculum. With almost 30 years in education,
Anne Tham and her team at ACE EdVenture are paving the way for education.

Together with their project partners in Jakarta, they created the possibly the worlds first
Chemistry-learning RPG (role-playing game).

Dr Rajiv Bhanot CEO of H2GO Global


He is the managing director of a technology-based company that works on providing a
cutting-edge solution to water filtration that he believes will eventually be able toendwater
poverty.

He is also the co-founder and CEO of Face Factors Clinic a premier aesthetic and wellness
clinic in Kuala Lumpur. Over a five-year period, he has helped buildupafewdifferentstartup
companies and converted them into high-growth sustainable businesses.

Hands Percussion Founder & Artistic Director, Bernard Goh


He is the founder and artistic director of Hands Percussion (HANDS) which has been amajor
part of the Malaysian performing arts scene since 1997.

HANDS highly acclaimed spellbinding performances have wowed audiences in the country
and at drumming competitions, music and cultural festivals around the world and won them
several Malaysian arts awards and a special performance award in Dijon, France.

Since its inception, they have taught and coached more than 8,000 students in the art of
festive drumming.

Honor Harger
She is the Executive Director of the ArtScience Museum in Singapore, she has curated
exhibitions all around the world.
A TED speaker, she was part of Radio Astronomy, broadcasting radio waves from space as
sound.

Upcoming possible presenters: Scientific researcher, New technology of dealing with waste
management.
