The Mother of the Believers, Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith (Ra) reported that theProphet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
came out from my apartment in the morningas I was busy in performing the dawn prayer. He came back in the
forenoon andfound me sitting there. The Prophet (Sallallahu said, Are you still in the same position as I left
you. I replied inthe affirmative. Thereupon the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, I recited four phrases
three times after I had left you.If these are to be weighed against all you have recited since morning, thesewill be
heavier. These are:
Subhan-Allah Wa bihamdihi, adada khalqihi, warida-a nafsihi, wa zinatah arshihi, wa midada
kalimatihi
(Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times asthe number of His creatures, in
accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to theink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise).
[Muslim]
Almighty Allah says: Do you not see how Allah puts forth the likeness of agood word (kalimah tayyibah)? It is
like a good tree, whose root is firmlyfixed and whose branches reach to the sky. It brings forth its fruit in allseasons
by the command of its Lord. And Allah sets forth parables for men, sothat they may take heed. And the likeness of
an evil word (kalimah khabeetha- aword of shirk) is like an evil tree, which is uprooted from the face of theearth,
and has no stability. [Quran: 24-26]

Paradise has a fertile soil and sweet water, and is like a vastfield. And its plants are [the words above].
Another version says: Whoever recites the wordsabove, a tree in Paradise is planted for him for each word he
says. [Tirmidhi]
17. Virtues ofreading the Fourth Kalimah:
The word of Oneness of Allah or the Kalima-e-Tawhid:
L ilha ill-llhu wadahu l sharka lahulahu-l-mulku Wa lahu-l-hamdu yuyi Wa yumtu Wa huwa
ayyu-ll yamtu abadanabada, -l-jalli wa-l-ikrm, biyadihi-l-khayr, wa huwa al kulli Shayinqadr.
(There is no god except Allah, Who is Alone and has no partners. For Him is theDominion and for Him is all praise.
He gives life and causes death. And He isliving and will never ever die. Owner of Majesty and Honour: In His Hands
is allgoodness. And He has power over all things)
Abu Hurairah (Ra) reports that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: A person who recites: Laa ilaaha
illal-laahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa alaa kulli shay-in

be written for him, and one hundred of his sinswill be lifted from him, and for the whole day, he will remain

his/herhome and his/her Family. [Marqat Sharah Mishkaat, Mulla Ali Qaderi, Vol. 2 pp. 583]
In another Hadith the Jinn and Shaithaan do not come close to the house inwhich Ayatul Kursi is recited. [Tirmidhi
Altargheeb Wal Tarheeb Lilmanzarivol.2 pp.631]
Abdullah Ibn Abbas (Ra) and Anas Ibn Malik (Ra) reported that the Prophet(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
said, Whoeverrecited Surah Zilzilah(99) would get the reward of reciting half the Quran. Whoever recited Surah

Dhikr of Allah at intervals while engaged in business is a source of greatreward and merit. It is mentioned in Hadith
that in a place where people areoblivious to Dhikr, remembrance of Allah is like being steadfast in jihad,
whenothers are running away. [Targhib, p. 193, vol. 3 ref. Bazar and Tibrani]
reclining on comfortablebeds and making the Dhikr of Allah on earth. Allah will grant them elevatedranks (in the

bounties which Allahhas bestowed on them and Allah will give them elevated ranks in the hereafter.
26.2 Do so much Dhikrthat people think your mad

beenforgiven? To this hereplied, `Aishah (Ra), should I not be a gratefulservant of Allah? [Muslim]
Anas bin Malik (Ra) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)said, Allah is pleased with His slave who

the one who sneezes." [Sahih Bukhari].
29. Allah willincrease us the more thankful we are to him
-Allah likes those who are thankful [Qur'an, 39:7]
-Allah rewards those who are thankful[Qur'an, 3:144]
-Allah gives more benefits and blessings to those who are thankful [Qur'an, 14:7]
-Allah protects those from harm who render Him thankfulness [Qur'an, 54:34-35]
29.1 Dua to make inevery Dua to become of the appreciative

familymembers." [Tirmidhi]
Even when entering an empty house one should greet with the intent that angelsare being greeted.
37.2 Reward forgiving FULL salaam is 30 good deeds
Imran bin Husayn (Ra) recounts that once he and others were in the presence ofthe Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam) when a man came and said, "Assalamu alaikum",towhich the blessed Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam)responded and said, "Ten" (i.e. the person who had greeted him had earned tenmerits); then another
man came and he"Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullah", to which the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)responded
and said "Twenty" (i.e. the person had earned twenty merits). Finally athird man came and said "Assalamualaikum
wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatu", to which the exalted Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)responded and
said, "Thirty" (i.e. theperson had earned thirty merits) [Abu Daud, Tirmidhi, Jami al Usul, p. 602. vol6]

Greatness?Today when there is no shade save Mine, I shall have them in My Shade.'" [Sahih Muslim: Kitab al Birr

39. We will be withthose whom we love even the Prophet (Peace be upon him)
Anas (Ra) Quotes that someone asked our blessed and exalted Prophet (SallallahuAlaihi Wasallam), "When shall
come theDay of Judgement?" Our Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) asked him "What preparation have you
made for the Day?" The man said, "Nothing, but I have love for Allah and for His Messenger." The Prophet
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "You shall be (on that Day) with whom youlove."
Anas (Ra) says that these words of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) sopleased us as nothing had ever
done. He further said, "I have great love for the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)and with Abu Bakr (Ra)
and Umar (Ra), and because of this love, I shall be intheir company, even though my deeds are not equal to
theirs." [Sahih Bukhari, kitab-al-Adab, chapter Alamah al Hubb fiAllah]
40. Magnify onesintention and get even MORE reward doing good deeds!
The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "Deeds (their correctness and rewards) depend upon intentions,
andevery person gets but what he has intended." [Agreed upon]
Ibn Al-Mubarak (Ra) said: "May asmall deed be magnified by the sincere intention; and may a great deed
bediminished by the insincere intention"
If we do not correct our intention before doing a good act or deed then we willnot get rewarded our deeds even if it
is a great one, while we can magnify ourhumble deeds by a sincere intention.
Introduction:
The word "Tahajjud" (from hajjada) means 'awake at night. Tahajjud Prayers also named 'Witr' or ''Qiyam al-Layl'
means 'standing at night.' Both terms refer to the voluntary night prayer.
The night prayer may be performed in the early part of the night, the middle part of the night, or the latter part of
the night, but after the obligatory Isha prayer.
Ibn Hajar says: "There was no specific time in which the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) would perform his late
night prayer; but he would do whatever was easiest for him."
However, it is best to delay this prayer to the last third portion of the night:
Narrated Al-Aswad:
I asked 'Aisha "How is the night prayer of the Prophet?" She replied, "He used to sleep early at night, and get up in
its last part to pray, and then return to his bed. When the Muadh-dhin pronounced the Adhan, he would get up. If
he was in need of a bath he would take it; otherwise he would perform ablution and then go out (for the prayer)."
[Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 247]
'Amr Ibn Abasah reported that he heard the Prophet say: "The closest that a slave comes to his Lord is during the
middle of the latter portion of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allaah, the Exalted One, at that
time then do so." [Al-Haakim, At-Tirmithi and An-Nasaa'i]
Abu Muslim asked Abu Zharr: "Which late-night prayer is the best?" He said: "I asked the Messenger of Allah the
same that you asked me and he said, 'The (one done during) middle of the latter half of the night, and very few do
it.'" [Ahmad]
Upon waking, one should wipe one's face, use a toothstick, and make the supplication which has been reported
from the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam):
"There is no God but Thee, Glory be to Thee, I seek forgiveness from You for my sins, and I ask for Your mercy. O
Allah, increase my knowledge and let my heart not swerve after You have guided me, and bestow mercy upon me
from Thyself. All praise be to Allah who has given us back life after our death and unto Him is the resurrection."
Then, one should recite the last ten 'ayat of al-'Imran (Qur'an, chapter 3), starting with, "Lo! In the creation of the
heavens and the earth and [in] the difference of night and day are tokens (of His sovereignty) for men of
understanding." Then one should say,
"O Allah, to You belongs the praise. You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and what is therein. And to You
belongs the praise. You are the truth and Your promise is true. And the meeting with You is true. And the paradise
is true. And the Fire is true. And the prophets are true. And Muhammad is true. And the Hour is true. O Allah, to
You have I submitted. And in You have I believed. And in You have I put my trust. And to You have I turned. And
by You I argue. And to You do I turn for my decisions. Forgive me of my former and latter sins, and those done in
private and those done in public. You are Allah, there is no God besides Thee."
Whenever the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) got up for Tahajjud prayer he used to clean his mouth (and
teeth) with Siwak. [Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 237]
"Satan puts three knots at the back of the head of any of you if he is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales
the following words, 'The night is long, so stay asleep.' When one wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is
undone; and when one performs ablution, the second knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot is undone
and one gets up energetic with a good heart in the morning; otherwise one gets up lazy and with a mischievous
heart." [Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 243]
(O Allah! All the praises are for you, You are the Holder of the Heavens and the Earth, And whatever is in them. All
the praises are for You; You have the possession of the Heavens and the Earth And whatever is in them. All the
praises are for You; You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth And all the praises are for You; You are the
King of the Heavens and the Earth; And all the praises are for You; You are the Truth and Your Promise is the truth,
And to meet You is true, Your Word is the truth And Paradise is true And Hell is true And all the Prophets (Peace be
upon them) are true; And Muhammad is true, And the Day of Resurrection is true. O Allah ! I surrender (my will) to
You; I believe in You and depend on You. And repent to You, And with Your help I argue (with my opponents, the
non-believers) And I take You as a judge (to judge between us). Please forgive me my previous And future sins;
And whatever I concealed or revealed And You are the One who make (some people) forward And (some)
backward. There is none to be worshipped but you."
*Sufyan said that 'Abdul Karim Abu Umaiya added to the above, "Wala haula Wala quwata illa billa"' (There is
neither might nor power except with Allah). [Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 221]
The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) varied in the number of ra'kats he prayed. The following are Hadiths
stating the number of ra'kats:
I asked Aisha, "How is the prayer of Allah's Apostle during the month of Ramadan." She said, "Allah's Apostle never
exceeded eleven Rakats in Ramadan or in other months; he used to offer four Rakats do not ask me about their
beauty and length, then four Rakats, do not ask me about their beauty and length, and then three Rakat." Aisha
further said, " I said, ' O Allah's Apostle! Do you sleep before offering the Witr prayer?' He replied, 'O 'Aisha! My
eyes sleep, but my heart remains awake!' [Bukhari, Vol. 2, Hadith No. 1147]
Narrated Masruq:
I asked Aisha about the night prayer of Allah's Apostle and she said, "It was seven, nine or eleven Rakat besides
the two Rakat of the Fajr prayer (i.e. Sunna)." [Bukari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 240]
Narrated 'Aisha,
The Prophet (sallallahu alahi wa sallam) used to offer thirteen Rakat of the night prayer and that included the Witr
and two Rakat (Sunna) of the Fajr prayer. [Bukari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 241]
However, he is also known to have allowed people to say their witr at the end of Isha. Since witr is primarily a part
of Tahajjud, it is not obligatory. Therefore, if someone is likely to get up for Tahajjud, he/she should say witr at the
end of Tahajjud. If one gets up late, witr can still be said, although it wouldn't be the ideal time of doing so.
Also, if one has left the witr from Isha intending to wake up for Tahajjud, but does not wake up by accident and the
witr is left unsaid, it is still no sin.
Alternatively, if one has already said their witr with Isha and they want to pray Tahajjud, there is nothing stopping
them from doing it. The only thing is that their Tahajjud would be different from what the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam) did himself and suggested to others (given hadith above). Although it wouldn't constitute an offence,
but, nonetheless, it would be lesser in value than the one that ends with witr.

O Allah, You alone do we worship and to You we pray and bow down prostrate. To You we hasten to worship and to
serve. Our hope is for Your mercy and we fear Your punishment. Surely, Your punishment of the disbelievers is at
hand. O Allah, we seek Your help and Your forgiveness, and we praise You beneficently. We do not deny You and we
believe in You. We surrender to You and renounce whoever disbelieves in You.

Narrated 'Aisha:
I did not see the Prophet reciting (the Quran) in the night prayer while sitting except when he became old; when
he used to recite while sitting, and when thirty or forty verses remained from the Sura, he would get up and recite
them and then bow. [Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 249]

make the last of the prayer the Witr prayer." [At-Tabaraani and Al-Bazzaar]
They (the believers) forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope; and they spend out of what We
have bestowed on them. [Qur'an, 32:16]
They (the pious) used to sleep but little at night. [Qur'an, 51:17]
Narrated Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu): The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: The best
prayer after those prescribed is (the prayer performed) in the depth of night. [Muslim and Ahmad]
He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) also said: The most beloved prayer to Allah was of Dawud (alaihi as-salaam). He
slept one half of the night, got up (and prayed) for one third, and then slept (the remaining) one sixth. [Bukhari
and Muslim]
I asked: "Apostle of Allah, in which part of the night the supplication is more likely to be accepted? He replied: In
the last part: Pray as much as you like, for the prayer is attended by the angels and it is recorded till you offer the
dawn prayer. [Abu Dawood, Vol. 1, Hadith No. 1272]
*End note
Alhamdulillah For Everything's admins here!
Jazakallah khairan for reading this :-) We hope this Note has helped you in some way. We just wanted to say, we
absolutely love Tahajjud Prayers! When we discovered about it, and the virtues/rewards for praying late in the
night, our hearts have grown attached to it. Since practicing this voluntary prayer (whether it be 3 short ra'kat just
before Fajr or longer in duration), our duas in the last portion of the night have always been answered!
Alhamdulillah. That is because Allah (swt) descends to the lowest Heaven in the last third of the night, and asks if
there are any of His servants that He may forgive; any servants that He may grant their wish. [Bukhari, Volume 2,
Book 21, Number 246]. That is what touches our hearts the most.
May we all be of those who practice Tahajjud Prayers regularly, and be of those most closest and beloved to Allah
(swt). Ameen!
