Local Demo: A Narrative

I conducted my practice teaching at Bambang National High School, one of the most
populated high schools in Bambang, during the months of December through March of 2016. I
taught in the ninth grade and handled four sections: 9-Science A, 9-Science B, 9-2, and 9-8
under the guidance of my resource teacher, Mrs. Agnes D. Benoza.
Handling ninth graders, I mainly taught Geometry and Linear Algebra and conducted my
local demo in 9-2. This was on the 18 th of January, 1:00-2:00 pm, and my lesson was on
Quadrilaterals.
Unfortunately, because of the absence of the Math department head, Mr. Romy Baladad,
my only critique during this demo was my cooperating teacher. I found this both beneficial and
not so beneficial. Beneficial because my cooperating teacher has had the chance to point out
my strengths and weaknesses and help me deal with them and prepare better before other
teachers can critic my methods and not so beneficial because it somehow made me too relaxed
knowing that my cooperating teacher and my students liked me.
By the time of my local demo, I have already familiarized myself with most of my
students. My resource teacher was very helpful not only in helping with my lesson plans but also
in bridging the gap between me and my students. She did this by telling the students tales about
me when I was still her student myself. This somehow created camaraderie between me and
my students and they had come to view me as someone they can approach and relate to.
Because I was always early to class I had a chance to mingle with the students before
class hours. This allowed me to win them over which is why they were very supportive and
cooperative during my first demo.
All in all, I received positive feedback from my cooperating teacher. She said my lesson
plan was well-constructed; my motivation was interesting and engaging; I delivered the lesson
smoothly; and I addressed the students by name whenever I called for volunteers to recite
which showed that I knew my students. The only problem, according to my resource teacher,
was my voice which is too soft and tends to be monotonous at times. Aside from that, I was
pretty happy with the result of my local demonstration.

Semi-Final Demo: A Narrative

My semi-final demo was conducted on February 2, 2016 in my advisory class which was
9-Science B, during their first morning period. My lesson was on Parallelograms. It was
attended by our Student Teaching supervisor, Mrs. Mercy T. Las Marias, Math Department
OIC/Head, Mrs. Mae S. Viloria, and my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Agnes D. Benoza.
I started the class by a prayer, followed by some greetings. I did not have to ask the
class monitor if anybody was absent because I knew my students pretty well by that time and
also because I have memorized their sitting arrangement which allowed me to know who was
absent, if there was any, just by glancing around the classroom. After checking and noting that
nobody was absent the class recalled the previous lesson and then I proceeded with my
motivation.
My motivation consisted of a story about a very special family; the Parallelogram family.
The story told of how King Rectangle and Queen Rhombus wished and was blessed with a
lovely daughter, Princess Square. The class was mesmerized by the story and they were put to
a test with a challenge question at the end of the story.
The lesson flowed smoothly. The class was very cooperative and they were wellbehaved as always. I have always been proud about how disciplined my advisory class was.
The class started and ended on time.
My critiques were fairly impressed with my demo teaching. They liked my motivation,
said my lesson plan was well-constructed and that I showed mastery of the lesson. The only
problem was, again, my voice. They advised me to practice speaking louder. They also gave
tips such as trying to vary my tone and using gestures when I speak. They said that I have the
potential to be a good teacher but I just need to practice more.

Final Demo: A Narrative

My final demo was conducted on February 22, 2016 in my 9-Science A class during their
second period in the afternoon, 2:00-3:00 pm. My lesson was Midline of a Triangle. My final
demo class was attended by our Student Teaching supervisor, Mrs. Mercy T. Las Marias, Math
Department OIC/Head, Mrs. Mae S. Viloria, my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Agnes D. Benoza,
and two other mathematics teachers; Mrs. Belda Ballesteros, and Mrs. Maricel Cudia.
I started the class by a prayer, followed by some greetings, and checked the attendance
by asking the students to take their nametags pasted on the board while singing the math song
Solve Me Maybe. Anyone whose nametag was left on the board was considered absent
unless excused. After checking the attendance we had a recall of the previous lesson through
the Question and Answer portion of our Search for Ms. Mathematics 2016, hosted by two of the
students, Mary Fe Corcuera and Yanny Esguerra. This was followed by the Talent portion where
in the candidates delivered math jokes which served as the motivation.
The class really enjoyed during the motivation part and they cooperated actively during
the lesson proper. I evaluated them through a group work. Unfortunately the class extended a
bit.
My critiques were satisfied with my final demo. I think it helped a lot that the class was
very active. They noted the improvement of my voice but also noted that I had to extend the
class a few minutes which they said should be avoided.
My practice teaching was really unforgettable. Not only did I learn a lot but I also got to
know some amazing students and teachers.
