withNo.2lithiumgrease.Installinnerbearingcone(2).Installhubassembly(4),outerbearing
cone(6),washer(7)andnut(9).Adjustwheelbearingpreloadasfollows:Tightennuttoatorque
of70ft.lbs.(95Nm)whilerotatingthehub.Then,loosennutandretorqueto50ft.lbs.(68Nm)
onModelswithstandardaxlesor25ft.lbs.(34Nm)onModelsequippedwithheavydutyaxles
andModeltractors.Then,loosennut1/4turntoalignslotinnutwithholeinspindleandinstall
cotterpin(8).Installlithiumgreaseinendofhubandincap(10)andinstallcap.

Raisefrontoftractorandinstalljackstandunderaxlemainmember(13).Unboltandremovefront
wheelandhub.Disconnecttierodfromsteeringarm(2or6).Removebolt(1)andnut(3)andlift
offsteeringarm.RemoveWoodruffkey(11)andlowerspindle(9)withthrustbearing(8)andfelt
ring(10),downwardoutofaxleextension.Removethrustbearingandfeltringfromspindle.

Installspindleassembly,Woodruffkeyandsteeringarm.Tightensteeringarmclampingbolttoa
torqueof8090ft.lbs.(108122Nm).Installtierodandtightennuttoatorqueof50ft.lbs.(68
Nm).Checkoilseal(1Fig.1)andrenewasnecessaryasoutlined.Installhubandadjust
bearings.

Removeeitherspindle(11Fig.6),blockrearwheelssecurelyandapplyparkbrake.Raisefront
oftractorandinstalljackstandunderaxlemainmember(16).Unboltandremovefrontwheeland
hub.

Removelubricationfittingfromsteeringarm(5or10).Removethreebolts(22)andnuts,then
movesteeringarm,steeringcylinder(leftside)andtierodrearwardfromaxle.Removecap
screws(1),caps(2)andgaskets(3).Removenutandlockwasherfromlockpin(15).Drivelockpin
forwardoutofaxlemainmember.Usingahammerandpunch,drivekingpin(12)outofaxleand
spindle.Removespindle,thrustbearing(14)andshim(13)ifsoequipped.
Inspectkingpinbushings(4)andrenewifnecessary.Bushingsshouldbeinstalleduntilinnerendsof
bushingsare0.0160.031inch(0.40.8mm)belowtheinsidesurfacesofspindlebores.Lubrication
groovesinbushingsmustalignwithlubricationfittings.
Installanewthrust,hearing(14),withTOPmarkup,onbottominsideedgeofspindle.Install
spindleoverendofaxlemainmemberwiththrustbearingunderaxle.Useajacktoholdspindle
andbearingtightagainstbottomofaxle.Usingafeelergage,measuregapbetweenupperedgeof
axleandthespindle.Ifgapismorethan0.005inch(0.127mm),installshimstoreducegaptoless
than0.005inch(0.127mm).Shimsareavailableinthicknessesof0.005and0.010inch(0.127and
0.254mm).
Inspectkingpin(12)andrenewasnecessary.Installkingpinwithflatnearesttothetopandin
alignmentwithholeforthelockpin(15).Installlockpin,lockwasherandnut.Tightennut
securely.Installsteeringarmandtightenbolts(22)andnutstoatorqueof160180ft.lbs.(217
244Nm).Installlubricationfittinginsteeringarm.
Checkoilseal(1Fig.2)andinstallnewseal,ifneeded,theninstallhubandadjustbearingsas
outlined.
