GRADE SECTION-B DESIGN CYCLE

INTRODUCTION
The problem for our unit in DC is data storage and preservation. So we decided
to create a database management system to store and manage the data we collect. To do
this, we first choose our topic for the database (eg. library) and then we choose our client
(eg. the librarian). We collect our primary and secondary data using interviews,
websites, computers, and many more. We finally, use all the data we collected to make
our database management system (DBMS)

HYPOTHESIS
The data we collect can be stored more comfortably and retrieved with ease using
a database management system.

MATERIALS
1.
2.
3.
4.

Microsoft access
The computer in the library
Help of our librarian
Books

PROCEDURE
1. Take interview
2. Collect data
3. Make analysis report

BACKGROUND DATA
INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Will you please help us retrieve the information we need?

What would you like to see in the DBMS? (What information?)
What audience/age group would you like to be able to access the DBMS?
What age group comes to the library most?
How do you want the DBMS to be organized?(according to genres, authors,

alphabetical?)
6. How are the books in the library sorted?
7. How should we get started?

RESULTS/ ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS

1. Yes, I will be happy to help you in making a DBMS
2. I want to see the authors, the genres, maybe a short summary. They should
be divided into age groups so that younger kids dont get inappropiate books for
their age etc.
3. I want the database to be accessible to all age groups, especially the older
kids, because they dont have enough time to browse the bookshelves.
4. The MYP students (age 11- 15) come to the library most.
5. The books should be easy to search for, so you can categorize them into all

of your options, genres, agewise, authors and alphabetical.

6. The books in the library are sorted author wise, but we usually tell them
apart by their book ID which is on a sticker on the book.
7. You should the information of at least 10 people (like login IDs or Student
IDs) and the information of at least 100 books, which I will help you with and you
should start entering the information into the DBMS.

CONCLUSION
We (My partner, Anwita, and I) are going to create a DBMS that can be ascessible
to all age groups and we are going to start collecting the data of the students and the
books. After this we can develop ideas about how to organize our DBMS.
