Welcome back! I am really looking forward to working with you this year! I know the year will go smoothly
if we understand each other. Therefore, I am giving you a list of our class expectations and procedures.
Grades:
Nine week averages are derived from the following:
Tests 55%
Quizzes 25%
Homework/Classwork 20%
The semester exam counts as 20% of the semester average.
Extra Help:
Extra help will be available in our Math Tutoring Center (A317) every morning (except Wednesday)
from 8:20 8:50 a.m. and every afternoon (except Friday) from 4:20 4:50 p.m. Please make sure to
plan ahead and not wait till the last minute if you need extra help. If you have not mastered math skills
from previous courses, you should seek help. Parents, please encourage your son/daughter to come
in for help when needed.
Communication:
You or your parents can reach me via email at kdambr@neisd.net. I will also be using
Remind 101 to communicate with all students. If parents would like to be included on the
Remind 101, you can follow the same instructions as students. Text @mrsdamalg2 to
81010 to be added to the Algebra 2 class Remind 101 pool.
Required Materials:
Students will need a 3 ring binder, divider tabs, pencil, and paper.
Colored pencils and highlighters are not required, but may be useful. I have included a class supply list
that would help me stock my classroom. These items are not required but they sure would help me out!
Calculators: Students will be provided TI Nspire graphing calculators to use in class. I recommend
students have one for home use, if possible, since thats what theyre trained to use and it will last them
all through high school and college. There is an app in the App Store that is significantly cheaper.
Students may not use the app in class but it may be beneficial to purchase this for homework and
individual study.
Homework:
Homework can be assigned on odd dates. It is the student's responsibility to be sure the assignment is
understood prior to leaving class. As with any skill, practice is imperative for improvement. Students will
be responsible for keeping up with homework and parents will be contacted if the student is not keeping
up with his/her work. Homework may be graded by completion as its purpose is to help the student learn
and grow, not as a measure of perfection. Students will be expected to write problems, SHOW ALL
WORK, and have circled answers. You must show your work to get credit!!
Quizzes:
Quizzes are scheduled on a regular basis and check your understanding of recently covered concepts.
They are generally shorter in length than a test and only cover one to two sections at a time. Please use
these quizzes as a resource in better preparing for upcoming tests.
Tests:
Tests will be given at the completion of each unit and to assess student comprehension. There will be at
least one every three weeks. Retakes will be available for tests below 70 for up to a maximum of 70
within the announced window or as otherwise required by district guidelines.

Late Work:
An assignment will be considered late if it is not turned in when I call for it. Late homework will be
accepted until the assessment for a penalty of 20% which will be deducted from the final score. Each
student is expected to keep all papers until nine week averages are given. Your papers will be your written
record of what you have done in this course and will be the main way to study for tests and quizzes, so
take good care of it.
Make Up Work:
When you are absent, you are responsible for all work missed. Work can be picked up once you return
to class. Feel free to also see me before or after school for an explanation of what was missed. If you miss
a quiz or a test, you will need to make it up outside of class time within 5 school days. You have one day
for each day absent to complete the work missed unless given special permission by me. Make up work
due to an unexcused absence may be scored as late work.
Conference:
I am always willing to talk to you concerning your child's progress. Please e-mail me at
kdambr@neisd.net if you have any questions.
Helpful Tips:
Ask for help when you need it. I am here to help you succeed!
It is important to show up to class on time and with the required materials.
It is required for you to keep an organized notebook throughout the year.
Follow directions and participate appropriately during class activities.
MacArthurs Honesty Policy will be followed. Any student caught cheating on an assignment or test
will receive a zero, a phone call home, and an N or U in conduct. He/she will also receive an
Academic Honesty Referral.
Respect and follow all directions for any substitute that you might have.
Final Thought:
You will increase your chances for success in this class by using available class time to complete the day's
lesson. I expect for you to develop your ability to contribute and benefit from working together with a
team/partner on many occasions. You must be willing to ask and answer questions in class. Remember, if
you don't ask questions, I will assume that you understand the concept. You will need to work on some
problems/concepts for more than a minute or two and sometimes even more than a class period! In
addition, this course will often ask you to explain your thinking-- orally and in writing. In short, YOU must
take responsibility for doing your work. You need to do all your assignments regularly. If you do all of
this, you will benefit and be more successful in this class. I'm looking forward to working with you, and
let's have a great year!
