Title
Method statement for installation of pergola.

II.

Purpose
The purpose of this method statement is to set guidelines and ensure good working
practice for installation of pergola.

III.

Scope
Installation of pergola in accordance with the specification, BOQ, plan and contract
documents.

Safety and Health Requirements
A. All employees/workers shall be provided with basic personal protection equipment
(PPE).
B. All workers shall be provided with proper tools and equipment to execute the work
safely.
C. Trained operators shall be engaged to operate the equipment.
D. All works shall comply with safety procedure or instruction as set in out in project
Safety Plan and Municipality rules and regulation.

WORK PROCEDURE
VII.

General Requirements
A. Ensure that materials, sample and method statement have been submitted and
approved.
B. Ensure that installers are well trained and acceptable to the manufacturer for
installation of units required for the project.
C. Structural soundness of the wall, member or piece of equipment to which the
pergolas is to be attached must be confirmed by a competent person, prior to
installation of the pergolas.
D. Tilling, profile finishing and any related works to be completed prior to start fixing of
pergolas.
E. Attachment method (e.g. through-bolting, anchoring, welding, etc.) shall be in
accordance to the approved detailed shop drawing and specification.
F. Welding rod will be used to fix the joints between the junction shall be as recommended
by manufacturer or as per approved detailed plan.
G. Obtain necessary clearances and approvals from engineers prior the start of installation.
H. Coordinate setting drawings, diagrams, templates, instructions, and directions for
installing anchors, such as sleeves, concrete inserts, anchor bolts, and miscellaneous
items having integral anchors that are to be embedded in concrete or masonry
construction. Coordinate delivery of such items to the Project site.
I. Provide final protection and maintain conditions, in a manner acceptable to Engineer, to
that ensure faade railings are without damage or deterioration at the time of
substantial completion.
J. Inspection request shall be submitted to the assigned engineer/inspector prior to the
commencement of works and upon work completion.

VIII.

Pergola Installation
1. Layout the location of anchor bolts for the beams and post with reference to
approved shop drawings and considering the actual site dimensions. Provide
markings on the locations of wall brackets.
2. Ensure that procedure and materials used to anchor the wall shall comply with
the requirements as per specification and approved detailed drawing.
3. Drill the marked location of bolts to anchor the prefabricated members of
pergola.
4. First install the pergola posts by using anchor bolts anchored on the base plate of
the posts. Fully tighten the bolts after securing the vertical alignment of the post.
5. Attached the beams on top of the posts. Fasten the beam on top of the post and
on the wall using approved fasteners as recommended by manufacturer or as per
approved detailed drawings.
6. Marked the location of rafters at equal spacing as per approved shop drawing.
7. Place the rafters on top of beam with equal spacing as to marked locations.
8. Using the approved welding rod, weld the junction of rafters and beams of
pergola.
9. Grind the welded junction of beams and rafters to polish the welded parts before
paint touch-up.
10. Apply the manufacturers recommended paint using the paint brush. Ensure that
there are no visible paint runs on the painted parts.
11. Ensure that there is no disfiguration of the frame members or any damaged
during installation.
12. Protect the newly installed access ladder from contact with contaminating
substances resulting from construction operation.

IX.

Mockup
A. Build mockup to verify selections made under sample submittals and to demonstrate the
aesthetic effects and set quality standards for fabrication and installation.

X.

Protection
A. Protect finishes of pergola from damaged during construction period with temporary
protective coverings approved by the pergola manufacturer. Remove the protective
covering at time of substantial completion.
B. Restore finishes damaged during installation and construction period so that no
evidence remains of corrected work

XI.

Inspection
A. Fixed pergola shall be inspected by a competent person for rust, corrosion and
structural integrity. Any paint damaged shall be touched-up prior to the handing
over.
