Classroom Rules and Expectations

ASL II
The way in which American Sign Language class is structured provides opportunities for
students to learn while having lots of fun! It is important to remember though, that this is still a
classroom with rules and expectations. Please adhere to the following rules:
1. Respect yourself, the teacher, and other students. All of us should feel comfortable in our
classroom at all times. Treat each other with respect. Please raise your hand if you have a
question during class instruction, stay on task during assignments and discussions, and use your
signing skills NOT YOUR VOICE when you are instructed to.
2. Use appropriate language at all times. How you speak to others says a lot about the kind of
person you are. Choose appropriate language in the classroom. Profanity and/or negative
comments have NO place in our classroom!
3. Be prepared to work every day. We have a lot to learn this year! Bring your binder, paper,
and a pen/pencil to class EVERY day. You will need to take notes, to have prior handouts with
you, and paper available. You will not be able to leave class to get these things, or borrow them
from the teacher.
4. The classroom will look like a place of learning. Please sit in assigned seats before the bell
rings, not on counters or heaters. Feet belong on the floor, not on desks or chairs. NO rough
housing, hitting and/or touching others. Please keep hands off others property, including the
teachers desk, cupboards, cabinets, etc.
5. Students are responsible for following all the rules and policies outlined in the student
handbook.
6. The bell is a reminder to ME that the hour is over, you can leave when I excuse you.
Please look around your area for paper or other trash that should be thrown away. Push your
chair in , and walk as you leave the classroom.
7. Most importantly, come to class with a positive attitude and be ready to have a good
time!! The close work we do in pairs and groups within our class will tie us together in our own
little signing community. Be prepared to become friends with one another.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Any student not following the classroom rules outlined here will be removed and given an
assignment to complete outside of the classroom. The assignment will be due the next day.
The student will also write a letter of apology stating what s/he did in class, and a plan detailing
a change in behavior. The letter must be signed by a parent.
Continual behavior issues will be dealt with in a meeting including the student, parents,
teacher, and administrator to work out a change of behavior plan.

I have read the classroom rules and expectations for ASL and understand them.
