Class Overview
Welcome to Prep and Lab IV! I am very excited to get to know and work with all of you.
These courses are designed to prepare you for the work force when you graduate. The
students will be focusing on a curriculum called Overcomming Obstacles that is designed
for all young people to be able to succeed. The curriculum focuses on communication,
decision making, goal setting skills, and designing a plan for the future. Students will be
going off campus for Community-Based Training in order to fulfill their hours requirement.
There will also be time during the class to work on portfolios along with support on other
class work.

Class Objectives

Students will be able to succeed in their Community-Based Training

Students will complete the modules of Overcomming Obstacles
Students will have their portfolios 75% complete

What do I expect of you?

I have high expectations for all of my students. To ensure that we all have a good,
productive, and safe class environment, all students need to:

Be Ready: Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings and prepared to participate
Be Respectful: To your peers, teacher, and yourself along with being positive
Be Responsible: Come to class prepared with assignments, supplies, and proper
dress

What if I am not meeting or ignoring the expectations?

If a student decides to not follow the expectations of the class, myself, or the schools
student handbook, the student can expect the following:
1. Redirection/Verbal Warning
2. Teacher/Student conference
3. Parent contacted
4. Administrative referral
5. Parent conference

What if I am exceeding the expectations?

If a student is consistently meeting and going above expectations, there will be possible
incentives to be rewarded out including:
- Regular praise and recognition
- Participation on class reward activities
- Positive notes, grab bags, and phone calls

Dress Code
Students must daily follow the dress code stated in the student handbook. When students
are going off campus for Community-Based Training, they will be held to a higher standard
than every day clothing. Some suggestions are as follows:

Khaki or non-jean pants

Polo or plain tee-shirt
No jean shorts (Girls: Shorts/skirts no less than 3 inches above the knee)
No clothing with rips, tears, or holes

Cell Phones and Electronics

Cell phones and electronics will not be allowed in the classroom and should remain in the
backpack/purse/pocket and out of sight for the class. There will be exceptions that will go
along with a class assignment. Per school policy, if a cell phone is seen being used, the

student can expect the following:

1. Verbal warning from teacher
2. Students phone put in paper bag, stapled shut, and put on floor next to desk
3. Referral

Grading
Each student will start the class with a 100 and it is up to them to keep that grade. 70% of
your grade will be tests, projects, and papers; 30% will be participation, classwork,
homework, etc. The scale will be as follows:

Attendance
If you know that you are going to be absent, for any reason, please come see me so I can be
prepared and help you make up the work you may miss or have an alternate assignment. It
is the students responsibility to get and turn in make up work. The missed/make up
assignments are due within 5 days of the student returning to school. It is a very important
part of this class to be present so please take that into consideration.

Academic Honesty
All classwork, unless stated otherwise, should be completed by the student without outside
help. Cheating will not be tolerated and will be handled accordingly. Plagiarism (the
borrowing of words, facts, ideas, and/or opinions from someone, including anything on the
internet) is serious offense and will be handled under Harding's policy.
