Carmelray Wastewater Treatment Facility

What are the primary and secondary processes involved in the treatment of wastewater?

What chemicals do they use in the neutralization and disinfection process?

What dewatering process do they use for sludge treatment?

Pilotage Sanitary Landfill

What types of wastes they are treating?

Solid wastes - It is used to dispose of solid, liquid and gaseous waste.

Domestic wastes - any nonputrescible waste, consisting of combustible materials.
Industrial wastes - waste produced by industrial activity which includes any material that is
rendered useless during a manufacturing process such as that of factories, industries, mills, and
mining operations.
Hazardous wastes - waste with properties that make it potentially dangerous or harmful to human
health or the environment.

What are the procedures to follow in order to maintain the facility?

Preparation Phase
1. Secured a flat and level area for discharge of the vehicle load.
2. Positioned the scale on a clean, flat, and level surface and adjusted the level of the scale.
3. Checked the accuracy and operation of the scale with a known weight.
4. Weighted all empty storage containers and record the tare weights. Storage containers should be
weighed each day, or more frequently if necessary, in order to maintain an accurate tare weight.
5. Labeled the storage containers according to the type of waste that will be placed on them.
6. Arranged for delivery of waste in sorting station.

Sorting Phase
1. Vehicles for sampling was selected at random during each day of the sampling period. Directed
the designated vehicle containing the load of waste to the area secured for discharge of the load
and collection of the sorting sample.
2. Directed the vehicle operator to discharge the load onto the relatively flat, clean surface in one
continuous file, to avoid gaps in the discharge load.
3. Collected any required information from the vehicle operator prior to the vehicle leaving the
discharge area and labeled the discharged load for the purpose of maintaining its identification as
other loads are discharge nearby.
4. The bulldozer operator collected 200 to 250 kg samples from two different sections of the load
and deposit them on the floor.
5. Once the samples were on the ground, the sampling crew divided the mix in half, collect one of
the halves.

6. Placed the sample to be sorted in a plastic bag or other type of container and label the container.
The containers with the samples will be transported to where the sorting is to take place.
7. All handling and manipulation of the discharge load, longitudinal sample, and sorting sample was
conducted on previously cleaned surfaces. The sample will be transported to the secured and
sheltered manual sorting are.
8. Positioned the storage containers around and conveniently close to the sorting sample.
9. Emptied all containers such as capped jars, paper bags, and plastic bags of their contents.
10. The sorters were instructed to remove the various categories of materials and place them in their
respective containers.
11. Once all of the large particles were removed, the sorters used a shovel, brush, dust pan, and
screen to remove the fine materials from the residue.
12. Apportion the remaining particles into the storage containers corresponding to the waste
components represented in the remaining mixture.
13. Recorded the gross weights of the storage containers and of any waste items sorted but not
stored in containers.
14. Emptied the storage containers in a designated area and weigh them again.
15. Cleaned the sorting site and the load discharge area of all waste materials.
16. The sampling was conducted for a period of 5 days.
