Art 1 Syllabus

Whats it all about? Art 1 provides an introduction to art through a variety of media. You will

learn and apply the elements and principles of design to produce creative art projects that reflect your
understanding of these concepts.

My Expectations: I have one basic rule that covers many areas and that is RESPECT. You

must respect yourself, others, and the school environment. This means you must do the following

Come to class on time, do your best, and treat the environment, materials and your classmates in an
appropriate manner. If you do not follow these rules you will be warned once and then your
priviledges will be revoked or detention assigned. You will need to bring a sketchbook, pen or pencil
to class every day for classwork and bellringers. If you forget, use the supplies on the bookshelf.

Grading: 10% of your grade will come from 1st demonstration assignments (classwork and

homework), 10% will be from SOAR points (critiques, being on-time, being on-task & keeping your
sketchbook up to date) 80% of your grade will be your projects or summative assessments.

All benchmarks are averaged using the standard grading scale

A = 90-100

B = 80-89 C = 70-79 In Progress = below 60

Your Assignments: There are 9 units for this school year. Each unit consists of several

formative class assignments and one larger summative assignment (project). The units are:

Daily Routines: Each day, at the beginning of class, you will need to complete the bellringer in
your sketchbook. After the bellringer is completed, class time will be split between presentations,
demonstrations, studio time and critiques. Refer to the CHAMPS instructions on the whiteboard if
you are unsure of my expectations for the day. The hall pass at the front of the room by the door may
only be used during studio time. It is NOT to be used during the first and last 10 minutes of class.
IF I am absent, you are expected to complete the subworkit counts toward your grade!
