We had 13 middle schoolers in attendance and the camp was done in conjunction with Calvary UM Church directed by Pastor Brian Cornell.
We started each day of the camp with
prayer and fun Bible Games. The theme
was finding and empowering kids to
serve him.

We ended the camp with a "Youre So

Cool Party" held at Pastor Brian's church

invited guests were people at the various ministries we had visited all week
who exemplified Christ Jesus and his
work. Kids also purchased and prepared
food and decorated for the party.

Church members brought their own

August 7 College Student and mentor
luncheon
We had college students and their families and mentors. A group of about 30
people.
Students were introduced and told us
where there are going to college. Dakota
will attend Western Carolina and Stanton will attend Virginia Tech.
Guest speaker Rev. Brad Farrington
Chaplain at ASU Wesleyan Foundation
commended our church on having the
luncheon and stated, "all churches
should be doing this". Two Foundation
work staff talked about what the campus ministry meant to them and how it
greatly impacted their lives in their discipleship journey with Christ Jesus. Brad
helped us realize the importance of the
mentoring young adults.

FALL WOMENS BIBLE STUDY BEGINNING

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 10:30 AM
A seven week study entitled, HoseaUnfailing Love Changes
Everything by Jennifer Rothchild, will begin on Wednesday, October 5th in the Morphew House. The study involves a workbook (5 days/week of personal study) and a DVD weekly session with discussion.
Hosea, an Old Testament prophet, preached using his marriage as the sermon illustration. The study of Hosea looks
deeply at that message. It provides background to understand
the Hosea and his message. Youll be guided to understand,
and apply the message of the prophet of love.
The study will challenge us with but it will show us the kind of
love we dream about. We will be amazed by the love of Hosea
for his wayward spouseand more amazed by the unfailing
love of God for His wayward people, and for all people. Hosea
showers us with hope pointing to the coming of the promised
Messiah.
A sign up sheet will be available in the narthex until Sunday,
September 25. Books are $15 each. Checks should be made
to Jefferson United Methodist Church with Womens Bible
Study in the memo line.

EFFECTIVE PARENTING CLASS

BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 28TH. 6:30-7:30 pm

CHILDREN, YOUTH
& FAMILIES

Raising children is a challenge! Every day they are bombarded with pressures of peers and pop culture. Often parents
feel helpless to instill great values in children. We are offering a video-based program called "Effective Parenting in a
Defective World", starting Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 6:30 in the
blue classroom. Some of the topics include:
How to Raise Positive Kids in a Negative World
How to Develop Your Child's Full Potential
How to Prepare Your Kids to Win Life's Biggest Battles
How to Discipline Your Child Effectively
The video is presented by Chip Ingram, the Senior Pastor of
Venture Christian Church in Los Gatos, California. He has
written many books and is teaching pastor and president of
Living on the Edge, an international teaching and discipleship
ministry. Please register for the class so that we can order a
student book for each family. Karen Miller will facilitate the
class. Thanks!

Bishop Paul Leeland has been assigned to the Western North Carolina Conference. A native of Washington, D.C., Leeland received his bachelors degree from
North Carolina Wesleyan College, and a M.Div. and Th.M. from Duke Divinity
School, and a Doctorate of Education from North Carolina State University.
Before being elected a bishop in 2008, he served churches in the North Carolina
Conference (Raleigh area) for 33 years following a stint as Director of Family Counseling in Atlanta after completing seminary. Just prior to his election to the episcopacy, Leeland was the superintendent for the Goldsboro District in the North Carolina Conference. DONT MISS A BIG DAY AT OUR CHURCH ON

(OcToBeR 1)
The United Methodist Men will sponsor a Brunswick stew fundraiser lunch at the church on
October 1 during the Autumn Leaf Festival. They plan to cook 23 gallons of stew to serve as
individual servings or one quart "to go" containers. They will also provide tea and a corn
muffin with the meal.
Men, women, children and youth can sign up to assist in serving or provide one item in the
recipe that will be prepared the day before the event and refrigerated. This is a large undertaking and many volunteers are need to cook and serve. Teams will serve shifts at different
times. There is a sheet in the narthex outside the sanctuary for volunteers to sign up. For
more information or to volunteer, contact Paul Horan at 982-2682 or Wade Sanders at 8778818. Thanks!
Our United Methodist Women will be selling crafts, bread, cakes, and other goodies. The
sale will be a fund raiser for their mission projects. Lets all come out and support our
mens and womens groups!
