Class Expectations 2016-2017

Mrs. Craig, Advanced Math 7

Welcome to Advanced Math 7! I love teaching math and I am very excited to begin the year. Please read this document
carefully so you know how to be successful in this class. After reading and filling out the attached information, you
should keep this document in your math binder all year for future reference.

Website: craigmath.weebly.com. A calendar of topics, videos, upcoming assessments, and homework will be here.
Evaluation
Grades are determined based upon a body of evidence that demonstrates student
mastery toward pre-determined standards of learning. The categories are:
Tests: 40% of your grade.
Quizzes and graded assignments: 30% of your grade.
Class work (full participation in small group stations): 15% of your grade.
IXL assignments: 15% of your grade.
We will have a few projects as well, some shorter and some longer.

Textbook information
Our textbook is called Glencoe Pre-Algebra . You may request a hard copy of the book. Directions for accessing the
online version will be given out at a later date.
Homework

Sometimes, your homework will be to watch a video and fill out a viewing guide/notes page. In addition,
throughout the video, you will answer questions. Your answers may help me determine the small groups
for the next day of instruction.
Other days, your homework will be to work on IXL assignments that are assigned for each chapter.
Please let me know ASAP if you do not have reliable internet access on a daily basis.
The homework hotline is 648-5040 and is available Monday-Thursday from 5pm-7:30pm.

How to succeed
Ask questions! Ask for help! Keep trying! You can do it!

You will receive class work and homework every day. If you complete it honestly and thoughtfully, you will
be successful on quizzes. You will do well on tests if you take careful notes and keep your binder
organized. In addition, you will need to study your notes daily and also again right before the tests.

Required materials
Four tabbed sections in a math binder, or four tabbed sections in a math part of a bigger binder.
Notebook paper
Pencils or pens
Four-function calculator to use at home
School-assigned planner (for hall passes and making note of the assignments)

Optional materials
1) Box of tissues to share with the class and/or a bag of candy to share with the class
2) Dry erase markers (to use individually)
3) Ear buds (to use during BYOD)

Behavioral expectations
Cell phones/devices should be off and out of sight UNLESS you are using it for a class activity that has
been authorized by the teacher. (BYOD.)
Follow all school rules and the Code of Conduct.
Specific classroom rules and further expectations will be discussed, practiced, and posted around the
room. Infractions will result in negative consequences including warnings, parent contact, detentions, and
referrals.
No more zeros!

If a student has not completed an assignment, the following codes will be entered into the gradebook:

AB student was absent but still must make it up (after 3 class periods it will then be missing).
MI missing assignment. The student did not turn it in when it was expected and needs to do it ASAP. It is graded as
a zero until it is completed and turned in.
EX the assignment is excused and does not need to be completed (grade is not affected).

A TOTAL OF 3 MISSING ASSIGNMENTS MAY RESULT IN AN ACADEMIC DETENTION.

*Students will be given reminders to make up work before an academic detention is assigned. If an assignment is not
completed by the end of the quarter, it WILL remain a zero.

Binder set up
1) Information section: Chapter calendars, class expectations sheet, formula sheet. *Keep it all year!
2) Notes: *Keep notes all year.
3) Graded work: Quizzes, tests, projects, anything you get back that has a grade on top. *Keep tests and projects
all year. You can clean out other items at the end of the chapter AFTER you have checked your grade for accuracy.
4) Practice: Any practice problems we did in class that were not attached to a notes page. Also, your work from
stations should go here. *You can clean out these items and the end of each chapter.

A note on honesty
All quizzes and tests need to reflect your honest, individual effort.
It is okay to ask for help and to sometimes work collaboratively on non-test, non-quiz assignments as long
as you are not copying.
Think of your name on top of your papers as your signature affirming the statement: I certify that I have
completed this assignment honestly.
