2nd Annual

Molly Mile Fun Run/Walk Set September 3 in Covington

~ The Molly Murphy Unicorn Foundation ~
Make plans this Saturday, Sept.
3, to take part in the 2nd Annual
Molly Mile Fun Run/Walk. The
day will start at 8:30 a.m. at Covington Eagles, 715 E. Broadway
St., Covington. A Pancake Breakfast will be served from 9-11 a.m.
The fun will include a silent auction, one-mile run/walk, face painting, bounce house, and balloon
animals.
The Molly Murphy Unicorn
Foundation was established to help
ease the burden of families who
have lost their child by assisting
with headstones and other memorial expenses. Mollys family realized the need during the planning
of her funeral. She was just three
years old when a drowning incident ended her precious life in May
of last year.
When Molly would visit a zoo or farm she would always search for a unicorn; therefore, the foundation
name reflects her personality. There seemed to be no limit to Mollys imagination, so to keep her loving
and caring memory alive, the family will work together to make the unattainable a reality. Molly loved to
dress up, so come dressed in your favorite outfit!

Milton-Union Public Library has a new big screen to project

films and presentations. The screen measures 116 by 72 inches and
slides easily in and out of the ceiling. It has already been helpful in
Wii parties, exercise classes, and power point presentations.
Tiny Tots Tessa Swigart, Evelyn Steinley, Carter Fallen, Ethan
Barnett, and Darcy Brown model for the new screen.
The purchase and installation of the screen was available through
a grant from the Miami County Foundation, which provides support
for the community at large in programs in the arts, community development, education, health and human services, with the goal to help
people help other people in Miami County.

Bradford Music Dept. has

hired Brad Sherman as Elementary

Music/Band Teacher. Additional
new teachers welcomed are:
Megan Heckman, English Language Arts; Melodie Myers, English Language Arts; and Rebecca
Evers, 4th Grade
Bradford Schools now has a
guest registry where all visitors
will report to the office to sign in
and will wear badges, and sign out
at the conclusion of their visit. All
staff members and students in
grades 6-12 will display district
identification badges at all times.
All exterior doors will be locked
and monitored, and various cameras have been strategically placed
to help monitor activity throughout
the district and to help ensure that
procedures are successfully implemented.
Bradford School District is
now partnering with the Miami
County Sheriffs Office to provide
school security officers throughout
the year. The district is transitioning to ALICE procedures (Alert,
Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate). Staff has recently received
training and will be practicing
safety drills through the school
year.
There will be a BradfordUVCC FFA trip to Indianapolis
October 19-22.

Last week I mentioned Ginger and I took a tour and

painting class of Van Goghs footsteps in Avignon
France. Van Gough moved from Paris to Arles, not
Avignon. At least they both started with an A.
In terrible health, Van Gogh left Paris for Arles just before his thirty-fifth birthday, with the dream of opening
an artists cooperative. But despite the warm fresh air
of Arles, Van Goghs health did not improve. And to
make matters worse, after an argument with his friend
Gauguin, he cut off part of his ear and had to be admitted to the hospital, and then to the asylum in nearby
Saint Remy. He died shortly thereafter - in 1890.
Today, many of his paintings are on display at the Old
Arles Hospital. His yellow house stands waiting, and
the Caf de Nuit remains, as it was when he painted it.
And, we toured them all. Ginger is still smiling
We are now in Avignon. Southern France has some of
the best regional food in the country. Its warm, sunny
Mediterranean climate produces a plentiful harvest of
vegetables, including eggplant, squash, zucchini and
onions. The food of Provence is almost always prepared
with olive oil, garlic and tomatoes. Often it is accompanied by aioli, a garlicky mayonnaise that is delicious
with vegetables, eggs and fish.
For lunch on our tour, we sampled a popular starter,
soupe au pistou, made from vegetables, noodles, beans
and basil. It was quite tasty.
You dont need to be a wine buff to appreciate the soft,
velvety and oh-so drinkable wines from southern
France. The regions varieties do not come more sought
after than those of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. On our tour
of a famous Popes wine cellar, we enjoyed the taste of
both red and white wines from the region. I can see
why one of Jesuss first miracles was changing water
into wine.

Back-to-School for Seniors & Their Caregivers

Offered at Versailles Health Care Center
Versailles Health Care Center invites the public to a FREE fourpart Long-Term Care Educational Series, featuring speakers on financial considerations for seniors and vets, decisions on downsizing or
transitioning to a condo, assisted living, or nursing facility, Elder Law
planning, and recent changes in Ohio Medicaid. Back-to-School for
Seniors and their Caregivers classes will be held in September and
October. Coffee and dessert will be served.
The first class will take place Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 6-7 p.m.
Steve Temple with Ohio Financial Services will present Financial
Considerations for Seniors and Vets.
The second class will be Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 6-7 p.m. Amy
Zumberger with Ask Amy Staging will speak about the challenges of
moving from a well lived in home, filled with a lifetime of memories,
to a condo, assisted living, or nursing facility.
The third class will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6-7 pm.
Attorney Tom Guillozet will present on Elder Law planning and Medicaid changes.
The fourth and final class will take place Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 67 p.m., and will be led by Jennifer Kreiger of Covenant Care. Versailles Health Care Center is owned and operated by Covenant Care.
She will review the Ohio Medicaid changes that became effective August 1.
