Step 1
(12% of 25) = 25 12/100
(12% of 25) = (12 25)/100
Step 2
(25% of 12) = 12 25/100
(25% of 12) = (12 25)/100
Step 3
Now we can f ind value of required expression,
(12% of 25) - (25% of 12)
= (12 25)/100 - (12 25)/100,
=0

Step 1
T he lowest number which is divisible by 8, 40, 16, is the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of 8,
40, 16
Step 2
T he LCM of 8, 40, 16 = 80.
Step 3
Now we need to f ind the number which leaves the remainder of 5 when divided by these
numbers.
T his number should be 5 more than the LCM.
T heref ore, the required number = LCM (8, 40, 16) + 5
= 80 + 5
= 85

We are told:
Since 2

Step 3
Now remember:

Step 4
Next we are told:
= 26
We can use the above f act to f ind the value of one
We know
= 4. So,
= 5 4 = 20.
+ 20 = 26
or
= 26 - 20 = 6
Since 2
= 6, one
will mean:
= 3.

Step 5
Now remember:

In this way we can f ind:

(9) a. Counting by 15
Step 1
If we observe the given series of numbers, every consecutive number increases by 15:
210 - 195 = 15, 225 - 210 = 15, 240 - 225 = 15 ...
Step 2
Hence the rule f or the given pattern is: counting by 15.

(11) b. 84361
Step 1
Let us subtract the f irst number f rom the second number:
82861 - 81361 = 1500
Step 2
Similarly subtract the second number f rom the third, third number f rom the f ourth, f ourth
number f rom the f if th and so on.
Step 3
It is clear f rom the above steps that there is a dif f erence of 1500 between each
consecutive number in this series. Hence the missing number would be:
82861 + 1500 = 84361

Step 1
It is given that,
Smaller addend + Larger addend = 12101
Step 2
It is also given that larger addend is 5423 greater than smaller addend, theref ore
Smaller addend + (Smaller addend + 5423) = 12101
Step 3
Using above relation we can see that if we subtract 5423 f rom sum, we should get double
of smaller addend
Step 4
2 Smaller addend = 12101 - 5423
2 Smaller addend = 6678
Smaller addend = 6678/2 = 3339
Step 5
Larger addend = Smaller addend + 5423 = 3339 + 5423 = 8762

Step 1
Let us f irst f ind the sum of their ages in numeral f orm: 22 + 33 = 55 years.
Step 2
Now we will covert 55 into Roman numerals.
Step 3
We should remember f ollowing basic rules to f orm Roman numerals:
a. Repetition
i. Repetition of a Roman numeral means addition.
ii. Only I, X, C and M can be repeated.
iii. V, L and D can never be repeated.
iv. No numeral can be repeated more than three times.
b. Addition and Subtraction of numerals
i. A smaller numeral written to the right of a larger numeral is always added to the
larger numeral.
ii. A smaller numeral written to the lef t of a larger numeral is always subtracted
f rom the larger numeral.
iii. V, L and D are never subtracted.
iv. I can be subtracted f rom V and X.
v. X can be subtracted f rom L and C.
vi. When a smaller numeral is placed between two larger numerals , then it is
always subtracted f rom the larger numeral immediately f ollowing it.
vii. Only a single symbol can be subtracted f rom another single symbol.
Subtraction can not be done with groups of symbols.
viii. A symbol can not be subtracted f rom another one that is more than 10 times
greater than it.
For example:
We can not write IL to convey 50 - 1 = 49 because L (50 ) is 50 times I
(1).
We can not write LM to convey 1000 - 50 = 950 because M (1000) is 20
times L (50).
Step 4
Based on the above rules, we may break the given number into easy repeating and nonrepeating units of Roman numerals as 50 + 5.
Step 5
T he roman numeral f or 50 is L, 10 is X and 5 is V, and since we know that to add two
Roman numerals, we write the smaller numeral to the right of the larger numeral. So 55 is
