HEINEKEN Global Packaging Policy

Within HEiNEKENs business model, packaging is an essential part of the way

we provide consumers with their preferred brands. Packaging protects the quality
and freshness of our products, ensures the safety and integrity of our products,
provides creative ways of expressing our brand value and creates added value
for our consumers. Packaging though, also represents a substantial part of the
carbon footprint of our products.
As part of our Brewing a Better Future approach to sustainability, we have made
a commitment to continually reduce our total carbon footprint as a business.
over time, in conjunction with our other environmental policies, this packaging
policy will help ensure that we meet this goal.
With our Global Packaging Policy we are committed, in addition to meeting
quality, customer management and brand management imperatives, to:

To reduce the environmental impact of our packaging portfolio throughout

the whole product life cycle while fullling our product integrity and quality
standards as expected by our consumers by:
conducting an environmental assessment of our current packaging
portfolio by using life cycle Analysis based evaluation, when appropriate,
and building continuous improvement;
optimizing the new packaging during its design phase by applying
life cycle Analysis based environmental assessment (eco design);
e.g. optimising the use of materials that can be recycled or considering
biodegradable packaging to decrease the amount of residual waste;
cooperating with packaging suppliers that will be committed :
to reduce the weight,
to optimize the use of recycled material,
to improve the footprint of our sourcing to minimize the impact of
transportation,
to identify and initiate improvement projects and opportunities
to reduce the carbon footprint and water footprint;
to report primary data enabling us to objectively assess environmental
performance at supplier level and to x improvement targets.
cooperating and co-developing with customers and consumers to optimize
the carbon footprint of our packaging, e.g. by reducing waste and improving
recycling;
Working together with operators in the market to encourage the reuse
(take back), recycling or energy recovery of packaging;

HEINEKEN Global Packaging Policy

To monitor our performance by setting quantitative targets driven by

continuous improvement in line with our sustainability vision. We will start
with the following indicators (to be extended to other environmental relevant
parameters ) :
The weight of packaging material per volume of product sold;
The net material recovery from our packaging in end of life stage
(recycling rate);
The average carbon footprint of our packaging per hl produced and product
sold based upon internationally recognised standards;

To publish the results of our eorts in the HEiNEKEN Sustainability Report and
to communicate to stakeholders.
