Robot Boleh

Uncle Bugs is an inventor and he has invented plenty of gadgets for his home and office.
He has two clever daughters whom are equally talented. They have invented many things
and won awards in Malaysia and abroad. Amanda is the elder child who likes to invent
things to make this world a better place. She has a younger sister, Amelia who is the
youngest inventor in the country. They are a proud family, envied by other families.
One day Uncle Bugs decided to invent a robot for Amanda. He sketched the design of the
robot. After taking all the dimensions and shapes into consideration, he finally completed
the drawings with the help of his two daughters. It didnt take very long for Uncle Bugs
made this robot which could speak three languages.
This robot could also walk, dance, shake hands and do all the basic things a child can do.
However, there was something this robot could not do. He could not think. This robot
could not function without having someone to give instructions through a remote control.
Amanda was so happy with this robot. It easily became her new best friend. This is the
best birthday present I have ever had Dad said Amanda with a big hug and kisses for her
dad. So, in the national spirit of Malaysia Boleh, her father named this robot Robot
Boleh. Meaning this Robot can do anything. Amanda then put in a letter X to denote
extra. According to her, she just had the feeling that this robot could do something extra.
So they called him RBX for short.
You have to program him to do more things if you want explained Amandas father. RBX
is a machine and not a human he reminded.
Amanda noted what her father had said and spoke quietly in her heart that it would be
nice if RBX could have a mind of his own and do things like any other normal kid would
without having to be remote controlled.
Amanda prayed very hard every night asking God to make her wish come true. Then one
night in her dream a fairy appeared and told Amanda this, if you promise me that you will
teach RBX the right moral values in life, Ill give him a human brain. But the minute he
misbehaves, Ill take it back.
Amanda gladly accepted the deal and told the fairy that she would take care of RBX and
make him a role model for other androids out there.

Sure enough RBX was able to think like a normal child. Good morning Miss Amanda
Tan! said RBX with a big smile. Amanda was happy to see this happening and
immediately thanked the fairy with a short prayer. She whispered softly, Ill keep my
promise Mother Fairy.
The next day, RBX helped to carry Amandas school bag. Hand-in-hand they walked to
school together. RBX became the talk of the school. Everyone wanted to get to know
RBX. Amanda was the proud owner of this popular new student in her school. RBX sat
next to her in class. He too, learn all the subjects that were taught in school
RBX, being a robot, was able to learn faster than any other student in school. Very soon
RBX became the top student by scoring straight As in all subjects. He began to be
arrogant in class and laughed at other children who did badly in their exams. He started to
call other people stupid and dumb head. This made other children dislike him.
He also started to boast about his ability. He said he would be the next Prime Minister of
the country because of his superiority. He was also a greedy robot. He wanted to play all
the sports in school. He would dominate every event without caring for others. Thus RBX
became the badminton champion, the table tennis champion, Tae-kwon-do champion and
athletics champion in track and field.
In other activities too, he selfishly participated in all events and won. And so, he became
the chess champion, the debate champion, the essay writing champion, the art
competition champion, story telling champion, singing champion and most creative
inventor in school. He took everything that was up for grab.
He also began to hate other people who could do things a robot could not. There were
only a few things he could not do. He could not blow a flute because RBX did not
possess a mouth with lips to blow it. He also could not play caroms because he did not
have fingers to strike the carom pug. He had a short fuse and got angry very quickly. He
hated people who could do the things that he could not.
So, RBX began to lose all the glamour of a cute robot which he had enjoyed when he first
joined the school. Amanda too suffered the same fate. Friends distanced themselves from
Amanda and her robot. Amanda felt sad about it and wished she did not have this robot at
all. She sometimes cried herself to sleep and wished someone could take this bad robot
away.
One night the fairy appeared in her dream again.
What has gone wrong Amanda? asked the fairy.

Amanda was very happy to see her again. In between sobs, she told the fairy that she was
saddened by all the nasty things RBX had done in school and how she was losing her
friends one by one; all because of the bad attitude in RBX.
Now my girl, you have to teach him about compassion said the fairy. Greed, hatred and
delusion is rooted very deeply into RBX now she continued.
Yeah! You are right, Mother Fairy agreed Amanda. So what can we do about it asked
Amanda with a worried look face not knowing if there was any remedy to her troubles.
You can do this, my dear advised the fairy. You can teach him loving kindness. It can get
rid of his desire to crave for sensual pleasure she stressed.
But how am I going to do this asked Amanda without any clue.
Pop! The fairy disappeared and Amanda woke up from her dream.
Hmmmm I wonder how I am going to do that Amanda asked herself over and over
again the whole day.
The next day was just another day in school and Amanda told herself that she had to do
something otherwise she would soon lose RBX. And to make things worse she would
lose all her friends in school. Life looked bleak and she had to think of something fast.
A bad thing happened on that fateful day. There was a fire in the school library and a few
children were trapped inside. The main door was jammed due to the intense heat from the
fire within.
HELP!

HELP!

HELP US!

Frantic screams came from the children inside the library. RBX was in the school
compound and knew what was going on. But he couldnt care less and was not willing to
help.
Ah let those stupid people die. They are not clever after all huffed RBX.
Please help to break down the door some students pleaded with RBX.
Please save those inside cried Puan Azizah the Headmistress. But their frantic calls were
ignored by this arrogant robot. By now he thought he was the greatest robot in the world
and it didnt bother him if a few of his schoolmates died in the fire.
Then at that spur of moment, Amanda thought of using the remote control. Quickly
Amanda switch RBX into remote control mode and the machine did everything as
instructed. Amanda quickly made RBX break down the door.

SMACK!

BOOM!

With the mighty strength of a robot, RBX broke the door. Then Amanda made the robot
dowse the fire by using a fire extinguisher placed in the library. Soon the fire was
extinguished and the children were quickly taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
Fortunately none of the students suffered any serious injury or died in the fire. The fire
destroyed the entire library. The incident was recorded by a TV crew who happened to
pass by. The event was broadcasted on the 8 O clock evening news. The entire nation
saw how Amanda and her robot saved her schoolmates from the fire. She was instantly
hailed as a national hero. Words of praise came from the families of the fire victims. Even
the King and the Prime Ministers sent congratulatory sms message to this new young
hero for her brave act.
Amanda was happy she was in time to save her friends in school. But she realized how
bad it would be, if she had not used the remote control. She knew RBX was too arrogant
to save her schoolmates who were trapped in the library that day. She would have had to
face a lot of problems if her friends had died in that fire
By then, the fairy had taken RBXs human mind away. He no longer owns a mind. RBX
is now a normal robot that requires a remote control for all his movements. Obviously
Amanda was sad about it. But she understood that unless she could teach good morals
values to the robot, it could become very dangerous.
Amanda did a bit of thinking and learned from this episode. She realized that good deeds
will yield good results. She is more confident now and wants to ask the fairy to give her
one more chance.
Again the fairy appeared in her dream and asked Amanda why she should be given
another chance. Amanda answered that confidence is the product of reason, knowledge
and experience. When this is developed, confidence can never be blind.
Seeing Amanda so confident with herself now, the fairy agreed to give her one last
chance.
True to the fairys promise RBX had his mind back again. Amanda quickly sat down with
RBX and laid down some strict rules. She told the robot what it could do and what it not.
There are 3 main rules Amanda said sternly to RBX.
One, RBX should avoid evil thoughts at all times.
Two, RBX should do good deeds at all times.
And 3, RBX should purify his mind.

The punishment for breaking the rules was simple. Amanda can easily use the remote
control and switch RBX into manual mode and RBX will lost his thinking ability.
RBX agreed and both are always seen consulting and talking about the values of
friendship. They are always planning how to help each other as well as others in school.
RBX will give tuition to his schoolmates who are weak in Mathematics, Science and
English.
RBX is now willing to share with other children to play sports. This time RBX will play
and at the same time coach others. The school sports team became very popular and
became champions in most of the inter-school games.
RBX and Amanda normally stayed back after school to help the teachers clean up the
classroom and school compound. RBX worked extra hard to make sure all things were in
order in the canteen, science lab, art room, school hall and especially the library. We do
not want to see another fire said RBX
At home, RBX would be helping Amandas mum to do house chores while Amanda did
her home work. Every night just before going to sleep, you could see both of them
kneeling down facing the window in their condominium praying together. May we be
well and happy. May our parents be well and happy. May our sister be well and happy.
May our teachers and friends be well and happy. May all our relatives and neighbors be
well and happy. May our pets be well and happy. May all living beings be well and
happy.
This has gone on for about a year now and RBX gets better each day. By now RBX has a
very good set of values in life and is easily the most loved robot in the world. His
compassion is always brought up as an example for other children and robots to follow.
His good example has led to the nomination as the BEST ROBOT of the yearr. This is a
prestigious award bestowed by the Minister of Science and Technology. Thanks to RBX,
Amanda and her family are now the most famous Inventor Family in the world and they
lived happily ever after.

Dedication
This story is dedicated to my daughter Amanda for being a loving girl. She has brought
happiness to my family.
A big turn of my life took place a month after she was born. I enquired why the color of
the full moon eggs has to be red in color and not yellow, brown, black or any other color.
Since then, I discovered that most people had a thick coat of dust on their eye that caused
ignorance. Then on I slowly learn and discover the great potential of a human mind. That
marks the beginning of my journey in the world of creativity and innovation..
