    To perform scans using an FTIR instrument, the operator must first turn on the computer and launch the WinFirst software. They then take the instrument out of standby mode before collecting a background scan to use for reference. Samples are loaded and scanned individually, with the print manager used to output each scan. When finished, the operator exits the software, stops the mirror movement, and cleans the sample cell.

    FTIR Standard Operating Procedure

    1. Turn on computer
    2. Double click on "Accessories"
    3. Then on "WinFile"
    4. Then on "WinFirst.exe"
    5. Press the "Standby" button on the instrument to take it our of standby mode.
    6. In the WinFirst Software, Click on "File" then Double Click on "Background Scan"
    7. From the "File" menu, select "Print Scan"
    8. Whenever the print manager pops up, select scan to print and hit "Plot"
    9. After printing, close print manager.
    10. Minimize background scan by clicking the upper left icon.
    11. Load sample into cell, click on "File" and select "Sample Scan"
    12. Repeat steps 7-9 after scan.
    13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 to perform additional scans.
    14. When done, exit WinFirst
    15. Press Standby twice on the FTIR to stop mirror
    16. Unload cell, clean with solvent under vacuum pressure.
